I use a dedicated line on my Cisco SPA525G phone for all inbound and outbound Skype calls via the Skype Gateway. For each phone line I can specify up to 3 preferred codecs from this list: G711u, G711a, G726-32, G729a, G722 and L16. I'm guessing that the external portion of the Skype call will always use the SILK codec, but which should I choose to use between my phone and 3CX?

You should use G711u between the phone and 3CX.

OK thx, that's what I'm currently doing. All set then.

another add to this post,
i have bria ipod touch/headset with G.729 codec over wifi, and it is not connecting to skype gateway with g729 codec?
wondering why if skype gateway supports g729,
my settings are pbx delivers audio off for the pstn gateway device.
how or where in the pbx would i set codec priority for skype gateway?

The Skype Gateway uses Skype running on the same PC as 3CX. You don't get to choose the codec between you and Skype, its proprietary. Are you using the free version of 3CX? It doesn't include G.729.
