As per the subject.

Latest maintenance version snom claims is 8.7.5.44...
https://service.snom.com/display/wiki/Firmware+Update+Center
so (e.g. for a snom 370) that'd be this file... http://downloads.snom.com/fw/mru-preview/snom370-8.7.5.44-SIP-f.bin

But a 3CX system somehow hands out 8.7.5.48...
which if it existed (it doesn't) on downloads.snom.com would be here... http://downloads.snom.com/fw/mru-preview/snom370-8.7.5.48-SIP-f.bin

We've asked our UK snom distributor ProVu about it and they don't know either, they guess it is either...
  1. Firmware snom made specifically for 3CX.
If true this is worrying as I was under the impression 3CX stuck to standards and didn't need any crazy altered firmware to be compatible with handsets.
  2. Some beta version snom made but later revoked.
This is even more worrying as I'm sure they'd have had a good reason for revoking it and 3CX are still using it.
The advice from them is to stick with the known official maintenance release from snom themselves.

Hello @Lantizia

We normally use the standard Snom firmware files as you can see on the latest models. But you are referring to an End of life model which hasn't been updated in a while.
If i remember correctly we requested an update from Snom for these models to accommodate the Let's Encrypt certificate we use for our FQDNs so that people who had these phones did not have to throw them away. But it could also be because of a major bug that needed fixing. Hard to recall exactly why after 3 years.
Edit: I would recommend using the 3CX supported firmware for all devices connected to 3CX. It is the firmware we tested and know it works.

Ah I see, that actually makes a lot of sense - and good of snom to do that.

We do occasionally get a stubborn snom (out in the field with a customer) that won't take the firmware for whatever reason so we sometimes force feed the firmware to them - before then adding them on to 3CX.

We'll probably back up the 8.7.5.48 versions and use them in those circumstances too - I'll save another reboot and another firmware update when they hit 3CX.

Do the files come from the 3CX instance itself or does 3CX (the company) centrally host them? I'd like to get the links so I can back them up.

When you add a phone to the PBX the management console checks for template and firmware updates. The firmware is then downloaded onto the PBX and the phones get the firmware from there.
You can also find the latest supported versions here: https://www.3cx.com/support/phone-firmwares/
