Why does a Windows soft phone show up as NEW when installed from Welcome message?

I may not understand the provisioning process of a Phone For Windows using the welcome message and clicking the .3cxconfg file.
The Welcome message would not be sent to the extension unless it was intended that the user installs the windows phone and run the .3cxconfig file. The job of the config file is to provision the windows client to connect and register on the 3CX server the welcome message was sent from. I have noticed that immediately after running the config file that the user can make calls. When I check the Phones tab I find a NEW Phone For Windows (bold letters) listed from the IP address of the just provisioned user.
I don't understand why that new phone would show in the list.
Shouldn't 3CX already know that the Phone For Windows belongs to the extension?

When I try to assign the new phone to the extension, the bold NEW phone remains listed.
Is it safe to delete the bold NEW phone?

This gets more complicated when Welcome message is sent to multiple users. It is hard to tell which IP belongs to which extension.

What is the difference between Windows Client CTI and Phone For Windows?

Why would firmware column show user@host instead of firmware version?

Hi,

The welcome email is sent by default with the config file included, and the users have the 3CX client added built-in to each extension as part of the 3CX system. Once provisioned (whether via the config file or from the management console, it's safe to delete it from the phones list if you wish. You can disable the welcome email as seen below, but the user will not be able to see their voicemails password, webclient link, extension number and any other useful info included in the email

Settings > Email Settings>Notifications> Just untick Notify user when extension is added

I think you are referring to the way the 3CX Client works as seen in the below settings:


IP Phone or CTI = Your 3CXPhone for Windows app controls your IP Deskphone to make the calls

Soft Phone = Your 3CXPhone for Windows app works as a standalone soft-phone

Softphone showing up as new.
I found that it was my computer was causing the issue. My computer is special that I have two NICs installed. First NIC is DHCP reservation 192.168.1.9. Second NIC is static with two IP address, 192.168.10.10 and 192.168.101.250. I presume that when I installed the windows client that the client multicast out of all my IP's and the PBX caught them all as NEW phones. After I deleted the .101.250 address from my NIC then the.101.250 NEW entry vanished form 3CX. I need to keep the .10.10 address so I deleted the new phone entry.

That doesn't answer the user@hostname issue.

Glad you found out what it was. Normally, after a while the windows client should appear in the phones list as provisioned (like deskphones do). Not sure what would cause the user@hostname value appear under Fw. Version
