Will performing an in-place upgrade from v18 to v20 cause the FQDN to be refreshed.

Hi Everyone,

I’m looking for some guidance on completing an upgrade from v18 to v20.
After running into several issues trying to restore my v18 backup onto a clean v20 installation (including an invalid option in the XML config file), the FQDN validation failed and my FQDN is now locked for 7 days.

Because my v18 license expires on Monday—and the renewal is now a v20 license—my only remaining option appears to be performing an in-place upgrade from v18 → v20 on the existing server.

My main question is:
Will the in-place upgrade from v18 to v20 trigger any kind of FQDN update / re-registration process?
I cannot afford to hit the FQDN lock again.

If the in-place upgrade does not trigger FQDN re-registration, then I can proceed immediately.
If it does, I need to know what alternatives I have, given the time constraint before license expiry.

Any clarification or guidance would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

This lock you're referring to its probably LetsEncrypt preventing you from getting an SSL certificate for your FQDN.

Does your 3CX pass the firewall test as this is likely the cause of the failed SSL renewal.

im not sure on grace periods for license expiry, i've never got to that point.

Alternative is to release your FQDN from your license and make a new one.

You could always backup your v18 without the license info but then Im not sure if its possible to restore this in to v20 to set up a new FQDN.

I successfully upgraded our system to v20. I performed an in-place upgrade to do this.
Thanks to those who replied to this post.
