Unsupported WP820 with phone vs fxs template

After some tinkereing I got the Grandsteram WP820 to provision as a regular phone rather than a DECT handset. To my surprise even auto provisioning worked. This is only tested behind an SBC and your mileage may vary. Even though CSTA is enabled in the template the phone does not show up inside the web clients dialer. Maybe someone has a solution to that. The template is working but I would consider it work in progress.

I figured out the CSTA problem and the WP820 will show up inside the web clients dialer and function after adding "Grandstream WP820" to "CSTA_USER_AGENTS" in 3CX management console > Settings > Parameters.

Now my only question is, will the the template get thrown out and the parameter set back at the next update?

A custom template will not be thrown out. An FXS one yes so that's why these templates provided by GS suck. As for the parameter, I never noticed if it stuck or not.

By the way, modifying parameters in there can render your instance unsupported.

Let's hope for the best and that we don't get shunned. I want to take that gamble because the WP820 is such a nifty little phone and so much better than the pesky DECT variety. Let's send a prayer to the mighty 3CX engineers to make that template official and approve of the CSTA fix.

I doubt it will happen. 3CX won't support Wi-Fi phones for obvious reason: call quality issues. Also, be aware that Grandstream has been having problems with their support team and firmware team for the past couple years so bugs are fixed very very slowly.

So in the interest of helping people out who use these, they work great, but the template attached at the top of this thread forces the 5G wifi function off/disabled. So the phone only works with 2.4G wifi networks.

If you would like 2.4G and 5G WiFi function to both work without tom foolery, use this corrected template.

It works great even on Direct Stun so far, and seems to hop around between our APs intelligently.

EDIT: OK, so after digging through this template i discovered the original author pasted a header in, and setup a few of the variables, but not most of them, basically just the minimum to get it working.

SOOO, i just spent 2 hours going over it, connecting all the variables properly, and added in numerous settings that were not setup in it, this new copy I am just uploading now as of the Editted time, has the following items fixed and working.

Language - was not even setup
Date Formats - did not work
Time Format - was not even setup
Power LED - was not even setup
MWI Indicator - was not even setup
Backlight Timeout - was not even setup

OK So another 2 hours down, and now i have the thing working as if it was designed for 3CX. Even the builtin phonebook works properly and downloads the 3CX phonebook into the handset automatically when it provisions, so you can call other extensions, and transfer to them without having to know the numbers.

Should work for Local, SBC, and Direct Stun.

My work here is done.

How do I get the auto-provision to work for this? I imported the template, restarted the MC and set up in phone provisioning tab. How do I get the handset to pull config and go?

Did you use the template in my post right prior to yours, or the one at the top of the thread? Use mine, there are bugs and missing bits in the other guys.

Once the phone is provisioned in 3CX, just power cycle the handset and connect it to wifi, it should momentarily pop up and ask for a user and password, when it does just enter the extension number you provisioned it to, and the voicemail pin, and it will reboot and fully provision itself, you never even have to touch its web admin.

Aye yeah. I used yours, set it up in 3CX and factory reset the phone, added it to wifi then nothing happened. I dont have the handset anymore as it's gone to site.

Not the same phone at all. Not the same firmware either.

Throw that to the garbage lol the 810 is a dead product.

agreed unfortunately, the 810 believe it or not uses a completely different firmware more akin to the grandstream deskphones, the 820 actually looks to be a limited version of android for non-touchscreen devices, and it works a lot better.

Thank you a lot, good job.

The template works, I got make a calls between extensions.
My problem is with transfer calls step. After wp820 received a transfer, it cannot transfer to another extension.
