When adding a contact via the phone UI on the X5U will this add it to the company phonebook?

Hi,

No - the phonebook is only locally stored on the device, and it periodically updates itself from the 3CX System.

If you store contacts on the phone they are not guaranteed to be kept, especially if the phone is ever reset.
