Xlite 5 is not able to register with Elastix

Hello,

I am new to Elastix and VOIP PBX setup and have been given the resonsiblity to set up the elastix server and align the softphones with it so that we can run a small contact centre for our charitable institute.

I have setup the elastix server, version 2.3. I am able to access the server's GUI. I tried Xlite 5 softphone to be configured with the PBX server with the following settings:

Setup Elastix, give it an IP address xxx.xxx.xxx.1, and login into the Web GUI
2.) Added an extension (3000, secret=XXXX, and enabled voicemail)
3.) Downloaded x-lite 5 beta
Account Name = My PBX
Protocol = SIP
USER ID = 3000
Domain = xxx.xxx.xxx.1
password = XXXX
Display Name = reception
Authorization name = blank
Domain Proxy =check box enabled to register with domain and receive calls

Voice mail=enabled

Topology= none(use local IP address)

Transport =TCP

I am getting the error on Xlite=" account could not be enabled. Problem at server (SIP error 503).

I am not sure from when in the elastix server to fix this if there is a option to get it recognised.

As of now I have just installed the Elastix on the box. Given it the static IP mentioned above, and been referring to Ben Shariff book to install it page by page. Now I am stuck with registering the soft phone and not sure how to move forward.

Need you help urgently.

You also need to add in Proxy (Below the checkbox of Domain Proxy), your PBX Box as Proxy.

Hi, i´ve tried with x-lite 5 and Elastix and works ok.

Must be the domain.

I am getting a bit confused with the domain thing.
Let me shed some more light on how I did the setup.

I took a machine which part of my organization's domain which has static IPs. Installed the ISO file on this machine and aligned a static IP from the domain Ip range.
We have ip range divided in multiple vlans which are routed through a L3 switch..eg..XXX.XX.10.0/16, XXX.XX.11.0/16, XXX.XX.12.0/16. The default gateway for all these Ip range is same and we have a dedicated domain server where all the machines with static IP with dedicated username is registered.

I have created a new VPN IP range and assigned it to the elastix server- XXX.XXX.25.1. The subnet mask for the entire range is XXX.XXX.0.0 i.e /16 series. In the pbx server using the GUI I gave the usual machine domain registration process .i.e. static IP, default gateway which is the L# address, preff DNS which is primary domain IP and secondary DNS is same as gateway. Registered the PBX server name in DNS.and the same was entered in GUI- elastix.CCCCC.NNNN

I am not sure if there is any other step required for a linux machine to be part of windows based domain.

Now when I try to configure Xlite3 with the elastix server, I am not sure what should be the correct setting esp..for domain and topology as I think some is wrong there as the softphone has only one error-network not ready.

I want the elastix server to be like any other server in my organization and use the existing physical network and resources. As I cannot create a separate physical environment to run the elastix server.

Please guide me what should I look into to fix it. I am also open to take skype calls as that make it easier to discuss the problem in more details.

Just forgot to add in to my previous post, I am trying to install Xlite on two another machines within the domain network on the a diffrent vlan than elastix's. On one machine its says network not ready and on another it gives me 403& 408 error.

My two cent worth.... Have you obtained a copy of "Elastix without Tears"? Located with this website under "Products", "Manual/Books". If you are new to VoIp & Elastix, it will shed some great info on the basics. Although written for an earlier version of Elastix, it's still the basics.

I think you may be trying to do too much at first. Drop the VPN, start with a simple setup and make sure it works first, then go and do your VPN thing.

Start with Server setup,

1: Install Elastix, during setup give it your server name and fully qualified domain name along with the static IP address your assigning.
2: Once your able to sign into the GUI, then check under Admin, network and make sure all the info you setup is listed as required with your ETH0, if its not then correct it there.
3: Under PBX then go setup extension. Since you will be using X-Lite then set up extension with the following: (replace values with " " with your information)
a: Extension Number: "5000"
b: Display Name: "Mickey Mouse"
c: CID Num Alias: (leave blank for now"
d: Sip Alias: "Mickey"
then jump down to devise options (leaving everything else alone for now)
e: secret "your exten password"
f: dtmfmode: leave as is
g: canreinvite: should be no
h: host: leave as dynamic
i: type: leave as friend
j: port: leave as 5060
k: qualify: yes
l: skip next two and go to disallow
m: disallow: all
n: allow: ulaw&h263&h263p
o: dial: SIP/5000
p: accountcode: blank for now
q: mailbox: 5000@default
r: vmexten: leave blank
s: deny: 0.0.0.0/0.0.0.0
t: permit: 0.0.0.0/0.0.0.0

Forget about the rest, as with the "blank" ones and other default ones above, once you read the Elastix Without Tears you can go back and change what ever you need to. We are just trying to setup a working machine and softphone for now to test. Do a "Submitt", wait for the pink bar to appear at top then click on it to finalize entries.

Now for X-Lite

1: Install X-lite, then click on "Sip Account Settings:
2: click "add" for adding new account
3: Under Account tab:
a: display Name: "Mickey Mouse"
b: User Name: 5000
c: Password: your secret you assigned in Elastix
d: Authorization user name: 5000
e: domain: "The IP Address you assigned to the Elaastix Server (Don't use domain name at this point, use IP address)
f: put a check in the box for register with domain and receive incoming calls
g: make sure that circle is selected for domain

The go to Voice Mail tab, put a check mark in box for "check for voicemail, then make sure that "number to dial for voicemail: box has sip:*97@ your assigned IP address. Leave rest alone.

Goto Topology Tab and when there make sure that "discover global address" is checked and don't worry with STUN server at this point. Enable ICE with a check mark. Then "port used for local computer" put check mark and enter 10000 - 20000. Then select "never for "Use XTunnels"

Then select ok button. Then go to "Options", then click on "devices" and make sure it sees your mic and speakers. Then click on "Advanced" (located down towards the bottom). Select "Audio Codecs" and under "Enabled codecs" only have G711 ulaw in that box, take everything else out. Select Video and make sure the H.263 & H.263+ is in the enabled codecs.

Now select Network, make sure check is in Local area network then jump down to "DNS" and in "Primary DNS Server" put your dns server IP address

Now click ok. Your X-lite should register and show that it is ready.

*IF IT DOES NOT, THEN YOU MAY VERY WELL HAVE A FIREWALL ISSUE, GO BACK TO SERVER AND DISABLE FIREWALL, THEN CHECK IF YOUR X-LITE THEN REGISTERS. If it does then you know that you have to open ports on firewall to make work. At this point I would highly (and I mean highly) recommend that you install the CFS Firewall, you can find more info about CFS under the "Security" section of this forum. Trust me, I learned the hard way as did many others and thanks to DavidO I have now been educated. IT WORKS Excellent.

All of this you could have found within the Elastix Without Tears". This is a good starting point. Hope it helps. Once you get it working then you can go and set up the VPN. If for some reason it is not registering after disabling the firewall, then you can enter "sip show debug" (I believe that is correct, check elastix without tears under trouble shooting for the different debug commands) on a command line found under "PBX", "Tools", "Asterisk-CLI" within Elastix.

When you get ready to set up the VPN you will need to get someone else on here to walk you through that as I have forgotten most of what I knew about VPN.


Hope this helps, others may have a better way of doing it but this should at least get you going. Let us know if it works.

just another clarification...
since you said that I should avoid using Vlan. Do u recommend that take two machine out from my network and then connect both the machines via a basic 8port switch? and just try to do the instillation. But in that case I should have a router switch which will help me to to have a gateway, but what about DNS setting. Since I will be connecting it to my enterprise firewall to get the internet access, some where I will have to use the enterprise NAT setting.. What you suggest, I am lil confused here?

Yes sir, I have about 6 skype account and about twenty email address. But before we go to that point (no offence) I would request that you read the manual I listed first so that you have a some what good understanding of what we would discuss on skpye.

Most of what you need for the basics to get a Elastix machine up and running is contained within that manual. I have installed about 50 or more of the X-Lites softphones, although they work good, they have tendency to be real bad about developing noise because of sound card issues. They also don't work well with VPNs. I was never able to get mine to work. So I have replaced most of the X-Lites with either VoIp phones or ATA boxes. If you are going to run a "production" machine (that's what we call an active PBX) for a business, especially a charitable fund raising setup where there will be heavy demand, then I would highly recommend that you look at getting VoIp phones or use ATA (like cisco) with some analog phones. Much better quality and a lot more dependable. I get my ATAs off of Ebay for any where from 10.00 - 20.00 U S Dollars.

I have done consulting within the fund raising end for non-profits and if that is what you are doing I would seriously consider VoIP phones. Nothing worse then trying to raise money for your non-profit and your volunteers keep screaming they can't understand what people are saying. Trust me, been there done that, as they say. In addition, VoIp phone work three times better for VPN and are fairly easy to setup.

I'm sorry, I didn't see this post before. I would always set up a test box first (yes taking separate machines with router etc...) to make sure that it works before I attached it to the outside world line, if you know what I mean. The manual will or should explain enough to get you going when it comes time to attach it to the enterprise network, if not, get it working first as a test then you can find a wealth of info by search the forum here or asking your questions on the forum. Bare in mind that everyone on here is a volunteerand so be sure to search and read as much as possible first.... and have a bunch of will power to wait for answers. A lot of us are not on here every day.

I tried doing as per your instruction set. Now after doing all the initial level of settings, where in I had taken two machines out from the network and connect it both through a switch, where in 1 is server with Ip address as 192.168.1.1, subnet-255.255.255.0 and gateway as 192.168.1.1 and the client machine which has the Ip range of 192.168.1.1, with rest of the setting as same. No DNS server settings in both places as there is no DNS associated with it now.

During the Xlite3 setup, I have done as per your instruction but when I come to network settings, the option to check the LAN and others are disabled and it says that to change it I need to disable the > application> bandwith allocation. I am not sure how to do this as I could not find any corrosponding setting or option to configure it and what shopuld be the appropriate primary and secondary DNS to the server settings. As you mentioned that our initial agenda is to get the Xlite register with server so it has now broadband modem connection hence no DNS and nor m I connecting it the the institute's network so I cant even use that. I tried looking for an answer in "Elaastix without tears" & "Elaastix easy" book, but was not able to figure out the answer for this query of mine.

As of now the Xlite is giving me the error of"403, forbidden ...."

Please suggest the next what can be done to trouble shoot the issue. I am sure I am overlooking some thing and not able to fix the issue.

You clearly either didn't follow the Elastix Without Tears manual as suggested or you don't really understand IP Addressing. I say that based on your above post where you have

Server Ip : 192.168.1.1 Subnet 255.255.255.0
Gateway as: 192.168.1.1 " " " " " " "
Client as : 192.168.1.1 " " " " " " "

What should be is something like the following:

Gateway: 192.168.1 Subnet: 255.255.255.0 DHCP: Active (Allows Router to issue IP Addresses)
Elastix Server: 192.168.1.3 Subnet: Same as gateway DNS Primary: 192.168.1.1
Client: 192.168.1.5 Subnet: Same as gateway DNS Primary: 192.168.1.1

Or set your router IP address to 192.168.1.1 and to be a DHCP server and let it assign the addressing for you, and then you would just let the Elastix be dynamic (assign no static IP Address and turn off DHCP in the Elastix Box) and get its address from the router and same with client.

Now if this switch is not a router then this would be cause for you not to be able to select client Lan settings as it is not seeing a "network" or your network card in the client is defective or it is seeing an IP address conflict because you have the same IP address assigned to another computer.

In addition, if you have a router that has no connection to the Internet then your Elastix box may not register clients and additionally will not allow functions of call making. If that is the case then you need to set up a "dummy" voip truck, you can find how to do that on here in the forum search as well.

When I suggested that you get two computers to set up as test machines and follow Elastix Without Tears, I meant just that. To do so you need the following:

1: Router, a router that is capable of issuing DHCP Addresses to the network. Preferably one that is capable of having an Internet connection port, three of four lan ports, and, is wireless accessible so that you can check wireless VoIp phones later.

2: A computer to ivishalanand nstall Elastix Server Software on, preferably one that will be very similar to the machine that you plan to put the Elastix server as a production machine on.

3: A computer to use as a "client", one that you can install softphone software on to test with.

You get these three items and follow the manual you should have no problems setting up a working server and client.

Do this first, make sure it works, then move on to the virtual environment as stated before. Then come back here for further assistance.

With respect to your previous thread..when I try to do this setting what would be the setting for the soft phone: either zopier or xlite3.

As of now the setting are:

the router has its default ip: 192.168.1.1/255.255.255.0. This is DHCP enabled. The wan settings are of ISP where in the public IP of ISP is been given as router IP and its DNS :primary and secondary in used as provided.

After this I have made elastix to be recieve the dynamic ip from router and have disabled the dhcp on elastix box. I am able to ping both elastix and the client'xp machine from each other. I can access the internet from XP machine too. I have forwarded the UDP ports on router even-4569,5060 & 8000-20000.

When I tried the static configurations: wherein the router's LAN IP is gateway (192.168.1.1) and primary DNS in elastix along with ISP's primary DNS as secondary dns in elastix and the similar config in client XP machine with the corresponding softphone configs as suggested earlier by you. The domain was cmri.local, and host was epbx.cmri.local. Softphones would still not connect and give 408 error. When I tried telnet 5060 port from client to elastix, it was not able to establish the connection

Now if I try the entire setup as dynamic, as mentioned in the beginning of this thread i am not sure what should be the soft phone config to try.

Honestly its been two weeks since I am try to get this softphone client to register with elastix server and it is not happening and now its quite frustrating as I am not sure where I am making mistake.

In a nut shell the client and elastix box are able to see each other over lan but the softphone does not.

please help.
 
Hi all.

First XLite 5 install.
First Test.
Xlite 5 is connected to my Elastix serveur.

I can making call..etc

However, i use gsm codec, and the quality of codec is very bad.
If i use Eyebeam 1.5.. no problem... good sound.

I prefere my Eyebeam 1.5 :P

Have you downloaded the manual "Elastix Without Tears", and did you read it fully before you tried the install?

If you did, it should be working. Many before you have done it and succeded in setting it up.

XLite works with me, hmm.. not sure why you can't make it work?

But I bought Bria3 due to:-

a) XLite can't seem to call extensions with 5 digits and beyond, hmm
b) XLite can't call mobile numbers even with dial patterns
