I've been using Yealink T42 and T46's lately, and when they auto provision, by default they seem to always start up with 2 line buttons for the associated extension. Not only is this unnecessary since there's only ever one person using the phone, so no need to choose a different line/extension. But also the two entries are identical. What's the point of having an exact duplicate? It just looks strange. I'm just curious why this is the default. Most clients ask me what it's for, and why it's like that, and I never have a good answer for them.

A number of sets have this as the default (I'm thinking Linksys/Cisco).

Many users want the ability to take a second call, utilizing a single extension number, after putting the current on hold.

A set used by the main receptionist would probably be set-up this way.

I think you also need it if you want to do a conference call from the desk phone.
