Hi,

we want to achieve priorization on the Voice data on some older HP switches. Those can only define VLAN priorities based on ports (not on VLANs). Our standard configuration is the same port for the PC and the phone. We use the hub of the Yealink T46g.

So I want to define the priority Tag on the phone.
According the the Yealink manual http://www.yealink.com/Upload/UCOne/20141231/T4X/AdminGuide/Yealink_SIP-T4X_IP_Phones_Administrator_Guide_V73_40.pdf page 386, this can be done.
I wonder how the phone will handle the traffic of the PC. Will it still be untagged? The PC are running in an untagged VLAN, the VOICE VLAN is tagged. I want to configure the phones like:

network.vlan.internet_port_enable = 1
network.vlan.internet_port_priority = 0 (default)
network.vlan.internet_port_vid = VLAN ID for our VOIP VLAN
network.vlan.pc_port_enable = 0 (default)

This is our first steps into VLAN priorisation, any help and feedback is appreciated.

Best regards Frank

What model switch is it and firmware?
Is it the newest firmware?
Try running the following command "qos type-of-service diff-services"
If that command can run successfully you could look at using Diff-service to prioritize the audio traffic.
This is how we accomplish it a lot of times when want there phones/pcs on the same vlan.

Hi tsukraw,

thanks for your answer. According to the current manuals, some switches (like HP Procurve 2500 Series) can assign priorities to Ports, but not to VLANs. So there are some Switches which support Diffserv, but not VLAN Prioritisation?

We will check out the diff-serve if we the 802.1p things don't work as needed.

In my post, I made a mistake considering the priorities.

I thought "0" was the highest priority. Now I changed it:

network.vlan.internet_port_enable = 1
network.vlan.internet_port_priority = 5
network.vlan.internet_port_vid = VLAN ID for our VOIP VLAN
network.vlan.pc_port_enable = 0 (default)

all the best Frank
