This method does work but I would have to do it after hours - otherwise it briefly disconnects the user from the network as the phone reboots. This is not acceptable as it will disconnect them from their database connection (Quickbooks, Oracle, MSSQL) and they risk losing or corrupting data.

Our phones are all POE powered with the users computer connected to the built in phone switch.

Yes I understand what you need. In this case it is too much work to listen for template file changes and update the appropriate template files. You can simply open an extension, make a fake change and then it will re provision. Your approach stands in this matter. Open it in ideas and we will take it from there.
