I have T54W phones and I'm trying to enable features and settings that aren't enabled through default provisioning (yealinkt4x.ph.xml).
Features such as:
- SRTP compulsory
- Noise suppression/smart block/acoustic shield
- Caller ID passthrough

I've made the changes in various ways (edit phone, edit template, edit template through ssh to /usr/share/3cxpbx/skel/Data/Http/Templates/phones), but none of the changes survive a reprovision.

What am I doing wrong here?

Included is the modified template.

I only do minor changes and have found the templates in this folder:
/var/lib/3cxpbx/Instance1/Data/Http/Templates/phones

But make sure your backup copy dont stay in this folder with names like yealinkT4x_org.ph.xml

Hi @Jestka

If you want to make custom templates, I suggest you use the below method
https://www.3cx.com/docs/custom-ip-phone-templates/

Do not modify content in the folders of the 3CX system, it may cause instability, or your changes may simply be lost.

We cannot provide you with any further assistance since we don't provide support for custom templates, but you can at least take your own time to learn what each phone accepts through your own testing.

SRTP is unnecessary and useless without SIP TLS, FYI.

For the Noise suppression, if the template does not provide this setting, you can then enable it manually on the phone instead of playing around with templates (since you clearly never played with those, it's a bad idea.)

As for the Caller ID Passthrough, what is the goal here? It should already work just fine with the 3CX supported firmware and template.

Thank you for the quick reply and I value any further insights that you might have on this particular matter.

Ok, the primary reason for tls/srtp is HIPAA and Vendor regulations compliance.
I followed the 3CX secure sip guide to enable SRTP (https://www.3cx.com/docs/secure-sip/), used Telnyx for 3CX TLS SIP support, and got the lock symbol on the phones when making test calls.
I fully understand that there is no end to end encryption externally (after Telnyx), but it's a compliance thing internally and it's also why I'm limiting/disabling SMS/MMS outbound.

I'm planning on using the openvpn client capability of the T54W to connect remote extensions to a self-hosted (on-site) openvpn server that routes to a 3CX VM.

That being said, Is there anything regarding TLS/SRTP I'm overlooking here?
Do you have any tips/suggestions on configuring ovpn client in the t54w?

My problem/actual issue still remains that if I go into each phone manually and make these changes, when I reprovision... it wipes the settings out. Thus, I'm assuming, I need to find the proper template to change or figure out where I need to make these changes to both onsite and offsite phones.

As for Noise suppression, yeah...I was afraid that this might not work well in practice. However, my client asked for a noise suppression solution to increase the customer experience and again... to conform more to quasi-HIPAA regulations.
This would be the first time I've enabled it and is a tertiary reason I went with the T54W phones that have "acoustic shield"/multiple mic inputs for active background cancellation.
Are there any noise suppression settings that you've used that work well enough and don't impact the MoS or UX?

As for Caller ID, fair enough... i just want as much caller ID data as possible forwarded to the ring group/extensions. It seem that I made an incorrect assumption that if there was an disabled entry.. that i should enable it.

In this case, you'll need to create a custom template (the Copy button in Settings > Templates). And then use that to provision the phones. However, it is not supported by 3CX and you'll need to update the custom templates with the modifications whenever the official template gets updated by 3CX.
