I keep seeing the red info line at the top that says "Remote storage is not configured. It is required to keep your system performant and easily updatable. Set Up Remote Storage"
When I go to set that up, I choose SMB (apparently UNAS doesn't have FTP). I am on 3CX Hosted servers.
Whatever I try, Isn't working. Anyone have any suggestions?

@TownTech by the time the machine is hosted by 3cx, open your machine to the Public ip of the PBX, and of course the appropriate ports. Otherwise the connection will always fail.

To get rid of the Red Banner, I believe you not only need to setup a storage solution, but also cofigure archiving. We only do backups for all our instances and still have the red error as we do not want to archive.

External storage as the PRIMARY original recording location is not supported (fine for archives). Network latency, potential network blips, and sometimes slower-speed disks in a NAS device can create problems for a busy 3CX phone system that, for example, is trying to simultaneously write to 1024 files.

For this reason 3CX only supports the use of local high-speed disks. However, the definition of "external storage" is important. For example an ISCSI SAN with high-speed purpose-built interconnects should be fine given that it could actually be faster, and more reliable, than a more traditional local drive.

The hard rule is "local disks" only for the original location of recorded phone calls. NAS is not considered local.

SMB is designed for file sharing on private networks, you shouldn't be trying to use it over the Internet. You might be running into issues because many ISPs block SMB ports because they've been a vector for major malware attacks.

Can you enable SSH server on the UNAS and then configure your storage via SFTP?

There is no way to access the UNAS externally except via VPN. The UNAS is not the right NAS for your intended use.

You're not forced to set up archiving or external storage and im sure I read that they're looking in to changing the colour / warning / notification to reflect this.

With U9 the color is changed. You can also set the parameter to remove the warning if you want.

That is correct, but it isn't the recommended solution anyway.

Agreed. But there should be an answer to the "I don't want to archive data but I do want offsite backups" question that doesn't leave a red banner. However, there may not be, the same as (since v15, maybe changing in u9/u10) the unsupported trunks warning.
