1) I had to delete the entire trunk configuration in order to have incoming calls working for 18U6
2) I had to redo the entire inbound rules
3) I reconfigured everything for incoming SMS

The documentation at https://www.3cx.com/docs/manual-u5/sms-text/ says that under "USER / General" there is an option to enable SMS.
This option used to be present in 18U5, it's nowhere to be found now. Anyone has a hint for that?

If you re added the trunk for SMS you need to watch out for 2 things.
1. Make sure your numbers are added in the E164 number format with the leading "+"
2. Make sure you updated the webhook of 3CX in the Flowroute portal as a new trunk will have a new webhook
thanks for looking in to this! remove Flowroute SIP, add fresh for new template. new webhook from 3CX to Flowroute portal.. same results. outbound works.. inbound SMS does not.. should I added SIP trunk from admin panel or 3CX Desktop App?
thanks

here is what I needed to do.. reset webhook URL for each DID in DID tab.. select DID/choose DID actions from dropdown and select Set Callback URL and applied/ applied right URL from 3CX/SIP Trunks/SMS
this clear up old webhook URL. I had correct webhook URL in Flowroute portal/Preferences/API Control/
hope this helps!

I would route out of office calls to a ring group and add your fake user as an agent along with a real agent. Both of them should auto switch after hours so they don't take calls. Set the "Destination if no answer" to the same Voicemail.
Voice calls will end up in the same voicemail box and SMS will go to both users until someone takes it.

Hopefully this helps
Sounds good. I'll try it out. Thanks

Login with the fake user and mark all this active conversations as dealt with is case the messages are coming from the same numbers.

I did that. There were five different messages. None of them were existing threads.

I believe you have misconfigured something along the way. Try to simplify the configuration by routing the trunk to your extension directly and see if you can get the messages.
If you have an inbound rule change that as well.
