I finally got around to running the updates for our x64 windows based v16 Pro 32 call on site installation. After doing so, the CPU of the hyper-v vm is running no less than 26% for the 3CX PhoneSystemApplication process (at 12.1MB). The system seems to be running ok, just no idea what is causing the CPU usage. Other than the updates, we did change our license from a perpetual to an annual.

Tim - How long has it been since the update, and which version did you come from?

How many vCPU's are assigned to the VM?
Any chance that a.NET update snuck in there as well, and it's optimizing runtime?

Thank you for the quick response Marco

I ran the updates on evening of 8/28/20. I honeslty didn't look at the CPU usage afterwards, so I cannot say for certain if this began right after the update or sometime later.

The version was v16 SP4 and now we are up to date at v16 SP6. I have 4 vCPUs with 8Gig on Server 2012 R2.

Other than during the update, a .NET update wouldn't have been pushed. We use WSUS and do not automatically approve any updates on the server vms.

Please take a full backup off of the machine, install a fresh OS and reinstall 3CX using the backup during setup.

You are currently running an unsupported OS, meaning we do not test that OS for compatibility or bugs and the behavior is unknown.

Is this wrong information?

Supported VM Platforms

3CX is tested and supported to run as a Virtual Machine on these hypervisor platforms:

  • VMware vSphere Hypervisor (ESXi) 6.X and above.
  • Microsoft HyperV 2012 R2 and above - see our Hyper-V Page for required settings.
  • KVM 2.8 and above
  • Citrix XenServer 7.0 and above
from: https://www.3cx.com/docs/manual/phone-system-installation-windows/

This indicates the host platforms of the hypervisor itself.

Using HyperV 2012 R2 != using Windows Server 2012 R2 as a VM on it's own.
