Hello, noob here. I’m not an IT pro so bear with me. I’ve got a new RPi install, v16.0 U7. I have a Comcast Business router using their firewall, dynamic IP. So far setup has gone great. I have my SIP’s up and running. I’ve provisioned a couple Polycom phones with very little trouble. I’ve set up a hand full of extensions to provision to iOS and Android devices. They work (connect) when they are off the LAN but not on. From what I gather, it is has having a problem resolving the FQDN from the LAN. If so, how do I handle this. Let me know if that’s not enough info. many thanks in advance.

Probably a DNS issue, you can try to use an IP for everything on the PBX or you can add a DNS server to your local LAN and point the network adapter from the PDX to the new DNS server. You mention you were less seasoned in these configurations so maybe try to run DHCP on everything from the comcast router and point all the network adapters for the PBX and phones to the comcast router for DNS. Usually the comcast router is 10.0.0.1 so put that as your DNS in the network adapter of your PBX if you are running static IP. Also, if phones are static, do the same for their network adapters. I don't work with comcast routers a lot, but there may be a way you can add host A records in the web config for DNS.

How I would handle this is to have a DC and DNS server on the network, lets say your PBX was phone.yourdomain.com and your local domain is yourdomain.local. DNS will have the yourdomain.local zone with host A records for all the computers on the network. Then, I would add a new zone, which would be yourdomain.com, then add a new host record of phone to it and map the PBX IP address.

Hope that helps.

Hey @BayerHunter,

Just to add something here, the 3CX Apps contain both the local and remote addresses for the 3CX PBX, meaning that when local, they should be able to contact the 3CX PBX on the local IP by default. I would suggest first checking what value you have set for the local address by accessing the Management Console:
• Navigate to Extensions >> Edit an extension that is being used on a 3CX mobile app
• Click on Phone Provisioning, select 3CX App from the drop-down list.
• Scroll down to where it reads "Network interface for registration and provisioning"
• Make sure that the local IP address of the 3CX PBX is selected.
• Apply settings and reprovision 3CX App.

@BayerHunter,

By the way, I would also recommend checking the router your ISP gave you (the CPE) for settings that could cause this issue for wireless clients such as client isolation also known as SSID Isolation or may even be called something like Guest mode. If you do have such a feature enabled, try disabling it and check to see if it helps.

I’m still working on this. I’ve checked the suggestions above. I have a windows soft phone that works wired into the LAN. I can ping and ssh in to the Pi when wireless but the 3CX apps don’t work. I can’t log in to the 3CX management console when on WiFi either. I haven’t been able to find any settings in the router that seem to be separating the WiFi traffic. Any suggestions are appreciated.

I got this problem resolved by changing from an IPv4 address to an IPv6 address for each extension under "Network interface for registration and provisioning". I opened the app while disconnected the WLAN to connect to the system. It obtained the new network address. Then I turned the device wifi back on and it started working. I'm not sure why this worked but it does.
