3cx Assistant - Cannot get it to work properly

I cannot get the 3cx assistant to work properly although the 3cx phone works great. It gets connected on the server, but either than that it does not do anything else. I create groups on the server but still it shows me all created users under "Not group members" and all of them are shown as 'not registered' , although all members are connected through the 3cx phone and talk to each other properly. By the way, I am using the latest free version for testing purposes. Any suggestions how to get the assistant to work properly?

i have a similar issue after upgrading the server to 8.0.10116.583.
3cx assistant version is 8.0.9924.0
although the 'executable version' says 8.0.0.9921
