3CX cloud, are you using the SBC, VPN or other to connect phones?

Hi All,

What is your method of choice for connecting phones to a 3CX cloud install. Are you installing the SBC on an on site server, using a Raspberry Pi, site to site VPN or something else?

Very open question - all depends on how many phones are at each remote location.

SBC has limitations - PI version can handle 20 extensions with 10 blf keys per extension , after which you have to use the Windows or Debian version. Note SBC should be the only application running on the host.

Site to Site, has no limits regarding phones as if they where local to the 3CX - the limit is you speed of link between remote phone and host.

As Identified above it is normally down to the amount of extensions you wish to use, but also it can be down to the phone brands you wish to use as well.

Preferred model phones: Yealink, snom etc can be used across the SBC, other brands (such as standard supported and un-supported) will not work using PnP across an SBC and thus a VPN with DHCP option 66 for provisioning would be used: https://www.3cx.com/sip-phones/dhcp-option-66/

Un-supported phones cannot use any method as standard so should be avoided.

FYI: Raspberry Pi = 20 extensions, but you can host an SBC on Linux or Windows OS (on something like an Intel NUC) to get up to 50 extensions.
