Hi everyone,

I would like to check if anyone can assist in this issue I'm facing,
On-prem 3CX server is unable to retrieve new license,
Error message stating " 3CX is unable to establish connection to activate.3cx.com"

OS: Debian 10
Version: 18.0.5
License: Professional

What was done so far:
1. Did a ping test to activate.3cx.com from my OS, Debian 10, and I'm able to ping to activate.3cx.com
2. Establish outbound rule to all services for a short moment and still the same result
3. Rebooted the services, still not able to reach
4. Rbooted the server, still not able to reach as well

Regards,
Edmund

Please note that systems below v18 update 939 cannot activate due to the certificate changes on the activation server.

  • As per the update of the certificate on the 21st of August 2023, which will now not allow any version below version 18 update 8 to activate,
  • Then, as per the blog post:https://www.3cx.com/blog/releases/update-8b/ requires systems to be on V8 U8 build 939 to activate and perform operations like the one you are attempting.
As such, updating the systems below U7 to the latest version is not possible directly and will require them to be redeployed for them to activate.

Hey Theodore,

Thanks for the update, I believe we have converse on email as well.
We may close this thread and I will do the upgrade.

Edmund

It says
"
Unless you need to buy or activate a subscription today or tomorrow there is no need to update your system immediately.

3CX systems - hosted or on premise will continue to operate normally!"

So why are you saying any version other than Update 8 wont be able to communicate?

Yes any version below SP8B(Build 939) will not be able to activate

When was this communicated?
I'm sorry but i don't see any post from 3CX that says none of the versions other than U8 will be able to activate.
Could you please provide the link to the post?

Hey there, in our Support Policies and Procedures, we mention "We support the latest versions only." therefore to ensure everything runs smoothly you must always ensure you are running the latest version

Thank you for the clarification.
I understand 3cx supports only the latest version.
My question was regarding what @TheodorosG_3CX said, any version below U8 wont activate.

If something like this is there, it should have been posted as a separate thread.
I tried looking for it, but didnt see anything like that.
I might have missed it too, so i was asking for the link to the post.
Even in the link he shared, there is no mention of such a thing, it says
Unless you need to buy or activate a subscription today or tomorrow there is no need to update your system immediately.

This is from where my doubt comes because we have one of our instances, which is an On Premise 3cx, that is running on U7. As per the blog post, i was under the impression I didn't have to upgrade to 8B.

This was mentioned on the final release as per blog post below:
https://www.3cx.com/blog/releases/v18-u8-final/
However there was the Update 8B that was required for the activation:
https://www.3cx.com/blog/releases/update

It says "As a result of the SSL certificate renewal on the license server, update 8 is required to activate, see or refresh your license information after you renew your subscription".

This means, unless we have to renew the subscription soon, we are fine.

This is the same thing communicated in the second link also,

"Unless you need to buy or activate a subscription today or tomorrow there is no need to update your system immediately."
