3CX failed to update from v16 to v18

Hi,

I'm struggling to update the 3CX from v16 to v18. When I click on the upgrade button I can see the pop-up message saying that 3CX will be upgraded, but nothing is going on, and the PBX stays up and running.

The current version is: 16.0.16

I have tried to reboot the Linux server, but it doesn't resolve the problem. The 3CX is running on Linux on VMware. I have included the Update logs as an attachment, taken from the Linux server.

I would be so grateful if someone can point me to the right place.

Thank you cobaltit, I was trying to avoid reinstallation but now I understand this is probably my only option. Since 3CX has officially removed an option to reinstall the 3CX via cmd, could you give me some ideas how I can upload an ISO to the VM ?

Looking at your logs it looks like some packages failed to download and for the ones it did, it resolved the hosts to IPv6. You could try disabling IPv6 on that box and trying the upgrade again.

This is the 3CX instance hosted on the private DC of my customer and it is running on VMware.

Thanks for spotting this in my logs, I will try to give it a go tomorrow in the evening, when the customer’s office is closed.

So you would make a backup and copy it off the VM. Download the ISO from the partner portal and upload it to the VMware datastore. Shutdown the old VM and spin up a new VM and install from the ISO, setting the same network settings. Restore your backup and you should be all set. Once everything checks out, you can delete the old VM.

I have tried today to disable IPv6 and perform the upgrade but it failed again. I will have to reinstall the 3CX and restore the backup as cobaltit suggested. It will probably take me less time than troubleshooting this issue further.

It’s good to know anyway how to disable IPv6 on Linux, so thank you for that Nick.
