3CX Failover on private DNS

Hi,

Could someone please help me with the setting up the failover on 3CX system. I'm currently operating my 3CX on Enterprise License and looking to setup an backup server as Passive Server but after reading several posts on 3CX's forum, i found that the "3CX Provided FQDN and SSL" is mandatory and without it, failover would not be possible.

But my current domain cannot be change and it would not allow me to change to 3CX DNS server. So my question is: could you setup 3CX failover on a non 3CX FQDN? If I change the IP of the FQDN manualy eachtime the Primary/Active Server failed, could i still beable to use 3CX failover function?

p/s: both of my servers are having static IP.

Yes you can, read the last section in our guide. You will have to customize your own scripts to accomplish the DNS changes.

So to be clear, all i have to do is set one server as active, one server as passive and in case passive server unresponsive, i just need to manually change the DNS (if i don't want to use the script to change it automatically)?

P/s: my server is currently running on debain 3cx, i have completely no idea how to write a script, could you please point me to the right direction.

Pretty much, yes. The 2nd PBX will become active and wait for extensions to register. You need to update your DNS somehow so that when extensions look for the PBX (via local FQDN for example) they will resolve to the new server's IP.

On Debian you would need to write .sh scripts in case you want to , you can google how to do this as well as what commands you would run. The commands are up to you really, for example you could telnet into your DNS server and tell it to make changes. Or you could run commands that shut down a machine, and have your firewall launch its own script to change the DNS when it sees the main machine down.
