Hi,

Can someone help me with connecting the Grandstream HT802 device to the alarm control panel, because the following appears in my logs:

Thanks

Hi,

Using an ATA for alarms is the wrong direction. If the network is down, or the power is down, or the ATA freezes, or the trunk / PBX is unreachable = you don't have an alarm.

In addition, analog modem style devices like this will not fare very well over VoIP due to the inherent latency/jitter of packet switching networks. Your security provider's end will not be able to recognize the signals coming from your alarm (and most likely why the call ends like your logs above). Even if you do get it to work, that does not equal that it's reliable.

It's time to see whether you can switch it over to cellular data or get a real PSTN line if those are still available in your area.

Thanks for the quick response. The thing is that this is with a customer who had a normal isdn telephone central until Friday. And since it has an old alarm cental, it is not possible to install a GSM module. And on the other hand, I can't tell the client that it's outdated and that he has to buy a new alarm device.

I understand fully, but that does not change the fact that the alarm will be unreliable.

At the very least, I think think it might be better to inform the customer of the situation, and they should make the decision after becoming aware of the facts. It's a technical limitation and decisions need to be made for this special case.

Regardless, VoIP will not work well with older alarms anyway. They will keep getting errors on their panel and they will be forced to contact their security provider one way or another. I think they provide kits to convert older alarms to use cellular so they might not have to replace the entire thing, there are options.

Many alarm providers have upgrades available, some free, some at an additional cost, because of the ongoing removal (conversion) of PSTN lines in many areas. Most still want your business and realize that the older systems are not reliable over non-copper lines. The last thing they want is to held liable, in any way, if they don't respond to an alarm. It doesn't hurt to ask, or, if the contract is close to the end, move on to another company, with more up-to-date equipment.

Hi,

I think you all look too much from the technical side and a little from the side of our clients, and I can tell you how the conversation with my client went, and it would be like this:

I warned him that it was an unsafe option and suggested that a GSM module be added to the existing device. To which the client replied that until Friday everything was working normally and that he does not think that he has to invest additional money in the purchase of the module.

Based on this, you can conclude that the client was not happy with my proposal, so I continued to work with the Grandstream HT 802 device, which fortunately went well, so I am providing the details below.

What is important in this case is that what we think is good does not mean that it will be accepted by customers, and comments like "There are other options" are problematic because behind each of these options there is a time required for implementation. .

That is well understood and accepted. You did your part to inform the customer and the decision was theirs after you informed them.

Be certain that the alarm provider is able to dial into the system, if that is a requirement. Many alarm companies are required to communicate with a modem, within the alarm system to interrogate, or reset alarms, etc. If that is required, you might want to confirm that it is also working.
