Solved 3CX Hosted - Direct SIP

We use DIRECT SIP to provision phones that travel between the office and work from home.

Is there any way around the requirement of an SBC for a 3cx hosted server?

Is this feature in development or has it been decided against?

Hi,

For 3CX hosted, SBC is a requirement. You will have no support for STUN phones and VPN is not possible.

Requirements/Limitations

• You cannot use CFD (Call Flow Designer) apps.
• IP phones must be configured behind a 3CX SBC.
• You must have moved your phone lines to a supported SIP trunk provider (see how to check) and no longer be using FXO/ISDN gateways
• Only works with supported register based SIP trunks.
• You will not get SSH access to the machine – all operating system management is done by 3CX.

Is it STUN won't work or 3CX won't support it but it will work? I can't think of a reason (besides the normal headaches with STUN) why Hosted 3CX would not work with STUN.

You can make it work if you want, but we will not provide support for STUN based devices when using Hosted by 3CX services.

This means if you are Hosted by 3CX and you face any issues with STUN phones, the official reply will be that we cannot provide support for this scenario and you will have to install an SBC.

I would like to know this as well, I have several customers that will have one or a couple phones outside their main office and we don’t want to send them home with a phone and SBC? Cost and technical ability/support nightmare

If $50 for a Pi costs too much then they don't value reliability. And I'm not sure how it's a support nightmare as we have Pi's running for over a year with no issues. Cost is a factor but it shouldn't be a roadblock. Pi + T41S is about the same price as say a T46S. So downgrade the phone and squeeze the Pi in there if it needs it.

@bryan - Installs with a couple of people working from the road should use the 3CX Android or iOS apps. This is super easy to install and support.
