Need to adjust the side tone to make it sound more like a normal handset.

Yealink help says I need to put this in the Auto Provision:

#!version:1.0.0.1
voice.side_tone = -3

Not sure where that is! Any help would be appreciated!

Thx
Dave

If you are on a 3cx hosted system , changes to templates are not possible as you cannot have custom templates

Hi Dave,

This is perhaps a custom setting that you have to provision into the phone manually (not all settings are visible in the WebUI).

Be advised though, with every customization you make, you also open the door to possible issues you will have to hunt down later on your own, so proceed with caution. 3CX does not provide support for systems that have customized templates.

You can export a cfg file from your Yealink, and it should be intuitive where this value goes. If you can figure this out then go ahead, otherwise leave it as is and enjoy trouble free telephony instead.

Thank you for the reply. Unfortunately, to some users, the unusual lack of sidetone makes the phone sound dead.

I have another few days to return the Yealinks if I can't fix this. Can you recommend a supported phone that has a normal sounding side tone?

Thx
Dave

As this is a very subjective matter, I don't want to mislead you by suggesting any specific model / brand because I don't mind sidetone.

If you have a chance to test stuff for free from your phone distributor, you can check Grandstream GRP 261x series or Snom D7 series, and some (not all) of the Fanvil X3 series.

They appear to have a more pronounced sidetone by default, but again I must stress that this is highly subjective and down to the individual ;)

Thank you. It's the very low sidetone that's annoying, makes it sound like you're not conencted! Is sidetone adjustment available in the 3cx hosted paid version? (plan was to make sure we could set up 3cx hosted the way we need then upgrade if it worked out).

With the 3cx firmware, can I add a line on a Yealink direct from the sip provider rather than connecting thru the pbx?

This specific Yealink parameter is not something that 3CX has any involvement in.
This is something you manually add into your phone and 3CX remains agnostic.
3CX provisioning would not touch that parameter at all.

I don't see why not, it should be doable. However, I would not advise to also try to connect that phone to 3CX at the same time.
You would have to run that phone independently of 3CX.
