When setting up 3CX on a Windows PC/server, is it better if the machine is on the domain or not? Or does it make no difference either way?

We set ours up in a workgroup, as the system does not need to authenicate against the domain.

I suggest putting it in a network DMZ zone and not on your domain. Typically you want any public facing servers segmented from the rest of your internal network.

The two aren't mutually exclusive.

It's simple really. You should follow the principle of least permission.
