We're in the same boat as rayfield, we're a silver reseller, about to hit gold but a long way from titanium. We are a provider in our own right and have decided to move our clients to 3CX as we like the product. Right now we can deploy our trunks that we provide directly our clients within 3CX under the "generic" truck setup. All works very well. If we're unable to do that in startup then we simple cannot offer startup to our client based. If the option is removed in future builds of 3CX on prem then we'll have no other option than to move our client based to another PBX solution.
I'm sure there are quite a few companies in this situation.
Easy solution would be to not remove "generic" trunks from the on prem build and/or include it in the startup.
Reading your response Nick that providers in our situation should make a reselling agreement with an existing provider... How do you imagine that would work? Because from my view point that is simply not doable. We (Call Central) are a provider, we sell our trunk/switching/billing directly to our clients. For us to setup clients under some other provider we would lose the ability to bill our clients and hand the ability and client relationship to this "existing provider" and hence cease to exist as a company.
We, just like every other provider out there do have carrier relationships but these are "upstream" relationship, completely separate to the client. The client never interacts with our upstream directly, we do. The clients systems only ever interact with us, whether it be 3CX, freepbx, avaya etc etc.
The path to bill a client for us is
1. Client makes an outbound call out of 3CX > call hits our switch through our trunk > we on send the call upstream to our wholesaler.
The reverse happens for inbound.
We bill these calls by having the call come through our trunks/billing system. If they dont come through our trunks we cannot bill them.
So can I ask, are there any plans in the future to remove "generic" trunks in the on prem build?
This is fairly important as there are quite a lot of companies basing their entire voice business model around partnering with your solutions and the removal of generic trunks is a huge risk.
