My cusomer is looking for a white paper on the QoS best practices and VLAN on 3CX. Does anything like this exist?

They will have a large amount Polycom phones and we will be establishing VLAN’s.

Any guidance would be much appreciated.

Hi,

QoS and VLAN on a VoIP network architecture are not depending on 3CX or any other IP PBX. If you understand basic principles of QoS and VLANs it should be easy for you to implement this things over your VoIP network architecture.

Anyhow there is a document on how to configure a specific router with QoS for 3CX, maybe you will find some helpful information:

http://www.3cx.com/blog/voip-howto/draytek-firewall-voip/

That does help, thank you for your response.

They are two items that are heavily dependant on the specific network architecture and hardware in place. In large environments VLANS are a must and QoS 802.1q sits atop. In essence VLANS allow you to segregate traffic and segment switches. The point where QoS becomes critical is where voice and data will merge (usually the routers). Line capacity plays a major role and proper packet tagging helps QoS a lot. DSCP of 48 or greater is key in DSCP aware routers or CoS of 5.
