Hi,

I'm hoping someone will be able to advise, we have an installation coming up with a server on site 1 and an SBC on site 2. It turns out that due to the current Covid situation most of the phones need to be deployed as home workers but they are going to take turns working in the office. For homeworkers I would obviously provision the phones (Yealink) using STUN rather than LAN. If I do this however will they work OK when the user brings the handset with them and plugs it into the same LAN as the 3CX server on the days they're working from the office?

Thanks in advance.

I doubt you will find an automatic way to do this since the STUN provisioning method sets specific settings in the phone to be able to use the STUN server. Also the extension on 3CX is set specifically for that extension as either STUN or Local LAN.

My advise for home working (especially with the amount of home users you are going to have) is leave deskphones in the office and issue home workers USB headsets and use the web client from home - you are going to have a support nightmare due to local home user settings if you use phones (local router user and provider issues).

Web client uses webRTC which includes mechanisms (ICE, hole punching and OPUS codec) to avoid issues introduced by network and NAT configurations - it should vastly reduce problems.

App on smartphones can be also an easy way for home use.

Actually we have had quite a bit of negative feedback on using Smartphone clients from home locations, not the smartphones themselves but clients dont seem to understand that they are only as good as the connection they are running on and poor 3/4G or WiFi = poor call quality.

The other thing we have been getting in regards to them is users thinking that smartphone Apps can be used alongside the webclient from the same location/public IP instead of using a USB headset (and using web client for presence), since both are 2 separate entities this has caused a lot of confusion and issues with call drops and audio. I am preferable to advising to use IOS/Android Apps on their own or as a last resort when out of the office and no other options are available.

Agree with you, in case of mix use of APP on wifi or 4G, but generally on 4G alone it works fine. of course if you are also with poor 4G then no way.
Webclient need also a decent ISP connection, if it's poor line too then what's best?

Generally where I am, we have better chance to save someone with poor land line with a 4G connection than a poor DSL.
