3CX V18: Connecting Teams & Customers - Faster, Better, More Efficiently

@danielogne

Could you let us know which SIP Provider you are using for MMS?

[EDIT]
We found that it is probably Telnyx you are sending from. For the time being, the image needs to be resized manually. Unfortunately all MMS providers have different size allowances depending on who you the receiver is, what network they are on, and even the type of number (long code, short code, toll-free, etc).

We will take this as feedback though and see if there is something we can do in a future update.

Yes it is Telnyx. As far as I know, many carriers have set limit to 1mb, where it use to be 3.5mb.

Problem is, how do you teach clients to manually resize image on an iPhone?
You are right, a lot of providers that support MMS have size limits depending on the destination number type (short code, long code, toll free, etc) AND depending on the destination Network (Verizon e.g. may have a different size cap that AT&T).
The maximum "'globally accepted" file size I have seen for MMS is 600KB from a bit of research I did.

There are a few apps on both Android and IOS that allow you fairly easily to resize images, but as I mentioned, we will be taking a closer look at this to see of there is something we can do.

I notice under user rights, you now have a choice between System Administration and Phone System Administration. However the Phone System Administration option excludes the manager from seeing Phones in the left hand menu. Is this an oversight?

Hi!

No, this isn't an oversight. The "Phone System Administration" option grants access to the following options in the Management Console:
  • Digital Receptionists
  • Ring Groups
  • Call Queues
  • Inbound Rules
  • Advanced Section (Contacts)
  • Settings (Apps > Codecs, Timezone, Office Hours & Holidays, Music on Hold)
The idea was to be able to grant a user enough access to be able to reconfigure elements of the day-to-day operations (add agents to a Queue, Update a Digital Receptionist prompt, etc), without though having access to 'break' the base configuration of the system (Outbound Rules, SIP Trunks, Security Settings, etc).

In order for a user to see the "Phones" node, they need the "System Administration" right.

Unfortunately, when the call is manually rejected in Teams, we get the same result, the call drops.
Hi!

Just a small update here, for V18 Update 1, we plan on making a change where when the call is manually rejected by a synced Teams User from the Teams client, the call will follow the 3CX Forwarding Rules for 'Rejected/Busy' set for that extension.

Hi @NickD_3CX

Does the roadmap of V18 (https://www.3cx.com/blog/releases/roadmap-v18-alpha/) will be update, one day ?
Generally we don't go back and edit blog posts, the information in each blog post is valid at the time of it being released, but in our industry things can change quite often.

You always need to find and look at the latest blog posts that are published for all the latest information. You can find them all listed here:

(...you as Partners usually get most of this information via mailers as well I believe.... ;) )

Okay, no problem.

I was thinking about a tab on the website for the current roadmap could be nice, imo, that centralise the information and users have just one link to go they can check.

I get the informations most fast by checking the forum tbh :p

Great! Thanks for the update @NickD_3CX .

when is the V18 be expected for Windows Servers?

ok, thanks
Why is that taking so long, when Linux is already out?
It's not as long as it seems, remember that there was a much deserved 2-week holiday during August for our Dev Team, so that's why the delay seems bigger.
It will come when it's ready though. :)

may i please ask where is the fax server in version 18 (with the fallback option)?

Sure!

In the Management Console expand "Advanced" and select "Fax Server".

- You cannot update your 'available' status anymore unless you have access to the forwarding rules (which we hide to ensure the call route where we set)
We'll be addressing this in one of the upcoming updates.

Hi @Nick Galea ,
Do you think it is possible to « develop a stable solution » to restore 3CX 16.0.6.655 (Linux) backups on 3CX V18 directly ? Without having to go through all the versions one by one.

I made a full backup of 3CX V16.0.6.655, I then uninstalled 3CXPBX entirely, I updated Debian to version 10, then I installed the latest version of 3CX V18 and I restored the 3CX Backup, Now, I'm having problems.

It was explained to me that even though the 3CX system allowed a 3CX restore from version 16.0.6.655 to V18 (Directly), this could be the cause of the problems with news or old scheduled call reports.

The problem is that due to COVID, we suspended the V16 update process since in the event of an outage it was not possible to reach the site.

In other words, what I understand is that it would be necessary to update one version at a time to be able to get to V18? It is not possible to make a system backup, Backup / Delete / install the most recent version V18 / Restore backup ..

It is possible. In fact, that's how you will probably have to do it for Windows instances.

That being said, why aren't you using the 3CX built-in updates? It will update to Debian 10 in the process automatically.

Otherwise, you will need to scrap the instance and spin up a new one using PBXExpress or the ISO to then be able to restore the backup correctly.

Reinstalling 3CX manually after upgrading Debian manually is not supported. Actually, installing 3CX manually is not longer supported at all.

We only validate backups from the latest v16 version to be converted and restored to v18 and not any other intermittent version!

We only validate the latest v16 version to be correctly converted into v18. Intermitted version we do not change.
The update process from the version you are on to v18 consists only of 2 Updates in v16 and then the final upgrade button to v18 with the OS conversion. Max 30 min job this is per customer (unless they run on small spec instances / PI)!
