Hi,

We are trying to establish how to set the Codec priority across the board.

We have set the priority we want in General Settings. however when adding a new user the priory is not how we want it.

We have also noticed that if you select multiple users , you cant bulk re order the codecs

is there any way around this? or a way to force a priority order across the board?

Thanks
Sam

Hello Sam,

There is no way around it. Each extension will need to have it done manually. If you create a custom template you may edit the codec priority in theory, but we do not recommend using custom templates.

And what about dtmf? How can we change default out of band to in band when provisionig yealink phones, there is no option for that. Only by custom templates and then we have unsupported serup

You're correct @mixig. By default 3CX uses out of band as it's more stable, reliable and widely used. As you mentioned the only way to change it would be an unsupported non-recommended custom template.

That would be a time saver, however, the codecs are per device/phone, not per person and there's not a way to edit multiple extension phones at once. I've always assumed that was because different phones have different options.

Also there is a codec order on SIP trunks, so 3 places to look (general, SIP, each extension+phone).

Hi Sam,

I agree with everything else people have said so far, I just want to add that for 3CX V18, we are working on something that will drastically improve this experience in regards to which codecs are being used and when, which should result in better audio quality and reduced resources being used.

V18? does this mean that you're skipping 17? or is this such a large scale change that its pushed back?

We've just setup our server on V16 so would be really handy to know the release timescale

Some numbers are considered unlucky in some cultures, that's all.

I can't give you a time frame, but it will be coming out fairly soon.
Continue your setup of V16 normally, there is no need to wait. As always, we will make the transition from V16 to V18 as easy as possible, so rest assured.
