Hi
What could be the reason that the sound quality for everyone in our organization is much better in 3cx webmeeting
then using the 3cx windows client? what do i need to check? where do i start?
Thank you

Hi @kenes,

You have a number of codecs that can be used if you are talking about internal calls (extension to extension for example). Some of these will have better quality than others, but there are various factors to consider https://www.3cx.com/blog/docs/bandwidth-utilised-for-voip/

If you wish to change the codecs for internal calls, just go to your extensions, select them all, and click Edit. Go to Phone Provisioning, 3CX Client, and you will see the codec list on the bottom which you can now change. If you move G.711 A or U law, and put it on the top of the list you should notice an improvement. Press OK on top to save. (keep GSM-FR and G.729 and G.722 at the bottom for compatibility)

The Windows clients should all be closed and reopened to reprovision and get the new settings.

Thank you for your answer.
i will give it a go.

@JohnS_3CX: G.711 has a better sound quality than G.722? You must be kidding! Even your linked article tells the opposite.

WebRTC should be using Opus which is clearly superior to all of these G.* codecs. That's probaby why it sounds better.

@CBX I don't know why you would say that, when clearly I never made such a claim

Regardless, I will elaborate a bit further for the sake of clarification.

Always in response to @kenes question, what I did say was a recommendation to use G711 to see an improvement, because his default codec on the Windows client is very likely set to GSM on all extensions causing him to experience lower audio quality VS Webmeeting which indeed uses Opus.

The suggestion of G711 is a good balance (as you will see in the linked article) between audio quality and low CPU usage for the same amount of bandwidth. It is also a widely used codec by most trunk providers so if it's the highest priority on your PBX clients then you also reduce the chance of transcoding unnecessarily as a bonus.
