I am running Version5.1.4510.0 on Windows 2003 SBS. There appears to be a memory leak in 'PhoneSystem.exe'. This process starts using about 8k, then 3 days later is at 476k and growing fast.

The previous build which was only current for a short while also exhibited the same problem.

Re: 4510 - processes

Phonesystem.exe would take much more then just 8k or indeed 496 k. In fact there is almost no process on windows that takes 8k or indeed 496k. Please be sure about you what you are posting before you conclude memory leak

Re: 4510 Memory Leak

No problem. Do you have a copy of 3CX Call Assistant running by any chance? This was an old 3.1 component and is known not be compatible with v5.1

Re: 4510 Memory Leak

No copies of Call Assistant in use at all.

Re: 4510 Memory Leak

Hi - Can you send us a screenshot of Task Manager and try and grab the whole lot of the 3CX services.

When 3CX starts, yes it starts in the range of 8 - 9 mb. When it is idle it is normal for 3CX to occupy 9500 k to 12000k. So at least we know that your 3CX machine is starting right.
Under extreme bulk testing we have seen it rise to 50 / 90 Megs but it is acceptable because of the amount of calls it is handling. When we turn off the tests it will start going down again. This will automatically rule out a memory leak.

Just to be on the safe side - can you try and installing 3CX phonesystem (same version) on another computer? See what happens?
Can you also download 3CX and perform a fresh installation? Maybe the installation got corrupted in some way and started to pose these kind of problems.
Please also upload a backup file of your configuration - We will upload it on our test bed to be able to exclude some sort of infinite loops in the config.

Also - can you describe the CPU usage of the process when it is at that amount? And how many simultaneous calls do you have going at the time of the rapid increase of memory?

thanks

Sorry, I've been developing software for small embedded systems all week, so I think in bytes, not k, as for windows.

When I restart the system PhoneSystem.exe takes 8,372k. After a few days it has risen to 476,912k, and appears to be increasing rapidly. Does this qualify as a leak?

Do you use 3CX PBX as "test environment"?

Thanks

Re: 4510 Memory Leak

We are not using the phone system as a test system. We are only a small organisation, with 1 PSTN line (SPA3102a gateway) and one VOIP provider (Sipgate). We have 3 extensions.

I have not got the resources, at the moment, to install the system on another computer.

I started yesterday recording memory usage for my peace of mind. The first result was:-
15:01 12th May 2008
3CXFaxServer.exe SYSTEM 00 30,144K
3CXIVRServer.exe SYSTEM 00 12,272K
3CXMediaServer.exe SYSTEM 00 19,244K
3CXPhoneSystem.exe SYSTEM 00 9,392K
3CXTunnel.exe SYSTEM 00 3,592K
3CXVBMServer.exe SYSTEM 00 6,060K

This was recorded immediately after restarting the PhoneSystem task.

Re: 4510 Memory Leak

This should be about right (the memory usage). Lets check again in a day or so.

Re: 4510 Memory Leak

Memory use at 09:15 19th May 2008

3CXFaxServer.exe SYSTEM 00 30,160K
3CXIVRServer.exe SYSTEM 00 12,888K
3CXMediaServer.exe SYSTEM 00 19,880K
3CXPhoneSystem.exe SYSTEM 00 19,484K
3CXTunnel.exe SYSTEM 00 3,592K
3CXVBMServer.exe SYSTEM 00 6,072K

All readings were taken with the system idle. PhoneSystem.exe is growing, is this expected?

Re: 4510 Memory Leak

Its normal to vary a little - we consider it a normal range for it to be in.

Re: 4510 Memory Leak

Ok

Let's give it more time. Remember that this increase is reflecting components needed by the 3CX Phonesystem that were used during this period and weren't as yet present at the time you restarted the services. As you use the pbx, more components kick in and therefore more memory is needed. But 19Megs is ok.

Keep us informed please, taking snapshots as you go along.

I have been monitoring the memory usage since 22nd May. Until 6th June the memory used by the PhoneSystem task had only risen slightly, but over the weekend there has been a huge increase. The memory use is as follows:-

6th June 9th June
Fax 30,164k 30,164k
IVR 13,036k 13,366k
Media 20,400k 20,412k
Phone 30,078k 98,588k
Tunnel 3,612k 3,608k
VBM 6,140k 6,140k

I have snapshots recorded every working day sonce 22nd May. I will keep wathcing.

The last test was performed at 09:00 this morning. It is now 15:40, and the memory usage has increased to 250,512k for the PhoneSystem task. It is increasing at 4k per second, so I will have to shut down the service and restart it shortly.
