We're trying to figure out how to set up an easy-to-implement after-hours solution for different "on call" users.

For example, if a call comes in after hours, and Jim (ext 101) is the "on call" person this week, his 3CX cell phone app will ring. Next week the on-call person will be Sarah (ext 102) , and the following week it will be Julie (ext 103), then the rotation starts over. The users all have desk phones and the 3cx app on their cell phones.

My first idea was to create an after-hours extension, and have the users all add it to their 3cx app and only turn it on when they're the person on call. The IVR would forward all calls to this extension after 5pm. This doesn't seem to work, since only one extension profile seems to be active on the app at a time, and having the after-hours extension active will "turn off" their normal extension in the app.

I could manually set up the IVR to call the correct after-hours extension each week, but it seems there must be a simpler solution (a button on the desk phone?)

Has anyone else tried to do this? With all of the options 3CX offers, I may be completely overlooking an obvious solution.

If the on call person is only changing once a week, you could create the after hours extension, then set the current on call person as the ring my mobile at the same time, option. Change the mobile number as needed.
If other users had no need to take after hours calls, and could be counted on to turn off their 3CX app, then you could sent after hours calls to a ring group containing the 3 users extension numbers. Only the person on-call would have their app active and take the call. However, getting users to always remember to Exit the 3CX app, probably won't happen.

As a variant of what you tried (assuming it is only 3 different targets) is you could configure forwarded rules for each user. Then have them switch to the 'after hours extension' and change the forwarding rule to the one that routes to them, and then they switch back to their own extension in the app.
