We still have few issues to be addressed, and based on the feedback we'll get from the current beta we'll decide the official release.

We've had no end of trouble with push notification failures on Android. We've been through support and had reasonable performance improvements (or atleast placebo effect) when using own Firebase account.

I'm really excited to see the performance improvements with the updated client. Can you go into a little more detail on what has been changed and how the changes will improve push notifications for Android clients?

Hi Nick, Cheers for that. I can't see anything on there regarding push notification optimization for the Android Beta.

I was hoping for a little more detail on what's actually changed and how it would potentially improve the push notifications from working as said on the blog post.

So the main changes were on the PBX side in V16 Update 8 as we complied with the updated guidelines by Google in regards to sending PUSH notifications. We also made some slight adjustments as far as I'm aware on the app along the same lines.

The new approach for PUSH that Google recommends, that is a combination of server-side + client-side should give you an improvement in delivery, but as explained, you would need to make sure that your 3CX is also in Update 8.

Hi, can you define your "no end of troubles". For the moment we are using 3CX app on our mobile devices in our plant, connected with WIFI. But we encounter a lot of problems, People don't receive a call, calls dropping after 5 seconds, Etc etc....
We have installed the last beta version of the App on a couple of devices but without a good result.
Can you maybe explain what actions you've taken to get a better result .

@timmehb We will work on a more technical blog post. But things we have done is leverage the latest and recommended APIs for PUSH in the clients. We have done big steps forward in the server too. Newer libraries and APIs but also new ways of working based on direct feedback from Google. Some are in the product, some will make it into the product in the coming weeks.

Big leaps in reliability have been made for network switching based on changes to the SIP core in v18. Audio quality has improved by going by default to G729 codec and avoiding transcoding as much as possible.

Note it also depends on the hardware. I use Google Pixel. Poorly implemented, no brand android phones can effect reliability. I depend on the android phone every day and i never have push problems anymore. Wait for our latest release in the coming weeks and then lets discuss on the thread and i will work directly with our android team to address any issues.

@Patrickha - What android phones are you using?

@Nick Galea , we are using Samsung A20 and A51 mobile phones in our production environment.
These devices are all connected by Wifi to our network. Even after installing the betaversion on the phones and 16.08 on our server we still struggling wit connection problems especially with reachability of employees.

Are these phones using Android 11? Have you tried with another Android phone on your network? Lets us know and then we can follow up with debug logs

Hi @Patrickha,
If I understand correctly you face Push notification delivery and network connectivity issues with the current production and beta versions of the app. You can also check your network environment / firewall regarding the Google FCM Push notification service requirements. If your WiFi network is compliant with Google's requirements and still face this issue, please PM me with a set of verbose logs to check and see if we can troubleshoot this issue.

The phones have V10. We also have an iphone and notice the same issues .

with the beta version of the app it seems that notifications arrive but very late, sometimes over 5 minutes.
All settings are those recommended in the recommendations. Tested with both Android 10 - 11 and an older version.

@Patrickha if you face the same issues on iOS then I suggest a network check as it seems to be the common factor here.

@cantarelliroberto2@gmail. you can trace if your devices have a stable connectivity to the FCM service through your network management / firewall device. Also be sure to get the latest Beta app released today and do a comparison check with data/WiFi connectivity.

@cantarelliroberto2@gmail. please provide your PBX and app version and PM me with verbose app log to investigate and troubleshoot further.
