I've been running v18 for a little while now and everything is going with it a hitch.

My installation is a little unique as I chose to link remote offices via VPN and use 3cx over the VPN connection for all phone activity.

Standard installation is to use 3cx softphone with an attached wireless headset. However I had a request from someone to have a physical phone. It's a pain but other officers have them so ok.

But not for love or money, I could not get the phone to register so I put it into the investigate later pile as the softphone was/is working without problems.

Today I was checking the fire wall logs and noticed entries for this physical phone marked blocked. So that got me thinking, why would the softphone work and not the physical phone as I assumed both would use port 5060. Yet the firewall block specifically identified port 5060 as reason. The fix was simple and took seconds.

But does anyone know why the softphone is using a separate port to communicate to the 3cx server than 5060?

I will close this thread as it seems that your question was answered.
