Anyone tried to make a 'better' HA?

Using Linux and coming from the open source world and using HA where you lose nothing, it seems to me that perhaps we can replicate the postgres DB maybe, script possible things that need updating and and use something like btsync, csync2 etc to replicate anything else needed. Anyone tried this?
