Attaching HDMI for video calling to phone

When we were testing a connection on a GS3275 out to a monitor, we found one worked great (Viore). Phone still controlled/produced audio.

Unfortunately, on a Dell monitor and a Viewsonic the HDMI sends the mic audio to the monitor, in effect, muting the near end.

So, tried to find a way to have the HDMI only send video to the monitor and leave audio on the phone. Can't find a setting on the Grandstream phone or the TV to accomplish that feat. The picture on the Dell 21.5" HDMI monitor is fantastic, receiving sound great, but no mic.

If your monitor had a DVI connection, I'm wondering if an HDMI to DVI adapter would "tell" the GS3275 that there was no audio connection given DVI doesn't carry audio.
