Audio Speech Delay

Greetings,

We have about 65 remote users with Windows 3CX Soft phones in production.

We have a handful that report as they describe "audio delay" where it seems to progress though the call where there is enough delay to understand both sides of the conversation but makes it for an uncomfortable call.

We are addressing the standard practice of their environment and such, bandwidth, resources etc.

But wondering about your thoughts on using a compressed G729 first choice or even non compressed G.711/ we show in there GSM-FR but not familiar with that one our selections in order on usage for their phones are:

GSM-FR
G729
G.711 U-law
G.711 A-law
G722

Typically when we noticed delayed audio issues, as we use remote extensions as well, it tends to be port mapping issues. The traffic has issues finding it's way back delaying the packets creating audio delay. What firewall are you using?

Unless you have a reason to do otherwise, it is usually best to make the set/device first choice Codec, the same as that used by your provider. This will help avoid transcoding issues.
