When we sell 3cx to customers coming off of a traditional analog or digital PBX (Avaya/NEC/etc) ...one of the biggest complaints we get is that they have to dial a * code to intercom employees. In their old systems they could just press the extension and have it automatically start the intercom to the extension they're dialing.

Is there a way to automate this in 3CX to make it act like those older systems, such as a change to the template for the Yealinks?

Go to settings > Dial codes and set a paging dial code (*99 is what we use but it doesn't matter what it is.). Make Custom Speed Dial buttons under BLF settings on an extension, *99101 will intercom 101, *99102 is 102, so on and so forth. On each extension that will use these you need to check Can Intercom under Rights in extension settings.

I would do it slightly different, Nortel style.
Setup BLF as you would normally. - Pressing the blf would call the phone and you can use the key to transfer calls.
Also setup a PREFIX key on your yealink with the value of your paging code and a label that makes sense to them (it would be Voicecall on a Nortel)
So when they want to page an extension, they press the prefix button followed by the extensions BLF button.
