Can someone confirm if their 3CX backup to Google drives are downloading as tmp?

Viewing them in Google Drive they show .zip but when you download it's a .zip.tmp file

Anyone else see this?

I've only tried once but i was able to recover a backup if I removed the .tmp extension.

Cant try downloading from another browser right not but I was using Firefox.

Hi @kieferschild

We are referring to the way the browser behaves so I can't really comment here. Anyway, at least on my PC I don't get this type of behavior if that helps.

I also made a test backup to google drive using my PBX and it is indeed saved and downloaded as ZIP, no .tmp extension appears.

Hi @JohnS_3CX I've tried with Firefox and Chrome and they both download with the same .tmp extension.

Are you downloading the backup from 3CX MGMT console or from Google Drive via web browser?

I have just done a manual backup to Google Drive and It downloads as a zip. My scheduled backups to Google Drive are downloading as .zip.tmp

Only when it's a Scheduled Backup
Only when using Google Drive as backup destination
Only when downloading it from the Google Drive interface?

Correct.

I can download scheduled backups from within MGMT console from Google Drive and it downloads correctly.

I cannot download scheduled backups from Google Drive correctly. (Appends .tmp)

I can download manual backups from Google Drive directly.

Looks like google is choosing to serve the file as *.tmp even though it is correctly named and even though from the PBX interface it downloads fine.

This is strange behavior on the Google Drive indeed but since the PBX uploads it correctly I cannot say why this happens, might be a question for Google Support in this case. Note that if you select two files together and download them, it compresses them in one archive, and looking inside will show you .zip not *.tmp so this is clearly a decision that happens on the Google end, something that we have no access to

Google support have said "if you have uploaded a file using the trusted way <desktop app/website> and It still gives me a .tmp file they would look further in to it. As it only happens when coming from 3CX they wont entertain it and suggested I speak to 3CX developer.

Hi kieferschild

No further actions here, since the file appears correctly named in Google Drive and will also download correctly from the PBX MC. I know this doesn't solve the quirk but if Google has no feedback on their end I don't see how anything can be done differently for the time being at least.

Hi John,

it just seems strange how it only happens on automated backups done from 3CX and not manual ones.

is there a backup log i can look at in 3cx?

Yes you can look under the System Service Log and the Cloud Service Log in your support-info file.

Not got much to go on other then

I've downloaded the desktop app and watched the backup download to my PC after its been created and its downloading correctly as a .zip file so i'm gonna throw this back at Google support.

will be in touch!

Yep, seems like the .tmp is something Google does, but I can't really tell why.
