Hi,

I'm not sure what the best practice or available options would be in regards to the current situation we're in.

We are forced to use an existing managed 3CX enterprise system where we share the server with multiple tenants. (We have a shared office). The company who owns the office is very open to my idea of wanting to integrate our CRM (insightly) with 3CX. I understand I can use the 3CX CRM generator tool to aid me to do this, but my question is in relation to segregation.

My goal would be, when a call comes in, a web page opens which is the Insightly contact page for that call. I have tried using https://crm.na1.insightly.com/search?q=%CallerNumber% as a simple way to search for the caller, but currently the URL isn't opening. (I believe this may be a bug?) but I think this may be the only way to keep our data private from other tenants (groups) on the 3CX server. Is this correct? Also, What would you do if you were me? Would you attempt to integrate with the insightly CRM using their API?

Any solutions/advise/recommendations are very welcome and thank you in advance!

Where are you configuring that URL? You should configure it in the 3CX Web Client > Settings > Integration > Auto launch a Custom Contact URL using variables. In that case, when you receive a call at your extension, the Web Client will launch that URL. Please check if the browser is blocking the popup, because that's very common.

If you use the 3CX CRM generator tool, you will create a server side template that will be available for all the extensions in the PBX. So your contacts will be visible to everyone, and this is not acceptable due to privacy I think. So I would not go this way.

The only "problem" is that with the first approach you will only get caller ID lookup, but not call journaling, contact creation, etc. So the integration will not be full...

Thank you - you've answered my question. Yes I was entering the URL in the web client. You're also correct in regards to me being unable to use the API as it's a shared box.

Rather than using the server-side web integration, you could create a 3CX Phone for Windows plugin. Frankly, building a plugin is a bit of work, but at least you could only install it on your computers.

However, it is unclear where 3CX is headed with plugins for 3CX Phone, or for that matter how long 3CX will continue to support 3CX phone. Clearly 3CX would prefer that we all move to the web client. I would love to hear from 3CX what their plans are for 3CX Phone for Windows.

Personally, I prefer 3CX Phone for Windows over the web client. While the web client is beautiful, and an amazing piece of code, the Windows client is a much more compact client (screen space), auto-starts on boot up, and I'm not constantly closing it when my CRM popup opens another tab in the same browser. I suspect I'm not alone.
