System: 3cx v20 self hosted.
Phones: Yealink
Scenario: Yealink TP phones in unmanned reception lobbies used as door phone to contact office staff
Requirement: a simple one button connection to an internal ring group via BLF button 1
Problem: 3CX will not let you select a ring group as a destination for call forwarding only extensions. custom dial requires selection and send after pressing BLF button.
Suggested Workaround: create a dummy extension, time out 1 second, Available forward to external number (internal ring group extension inserted here), set if Busy or Unregistered to same.

Issue: Even if extension is registered on a 3cx App call routing fails with Temporarily Unavailable.

any suggestions to troubleshoot this or a better configuration would be happily received.

Create a custom speed dial to point to the extension number of the ring group. Press the button and it will call the ring group.

Hi Josh,
yep that was the first thing I did. It wasn't working, got a screen showing the ring group number and button saying send. rebooted it and tried again, same thing. Hence the hunt round the forums and opening a ticket with our 3cx partner. Have been trying various tricks suggested on the forums since then see here https://www.3cx.com/community/threads/queues-to-dummy-extensions-to-forward-external-numbers.132582/

Gave up and desperation tried the same trick of setting a custom speed dial on my 3cx PWA dialer and it worked. Set the same custom speed dial that we had this morning on the users for the phones and guess what? It decided to start working. Got back to my desk and found your reply waiting for me. I think the Germans call this the demonstration effect. As soon as you want to show someone else the bug it magically disappears. found the definition on a Stack Exchange page a while back and thought it deserved bookmarking LOL.

there was a German word with the definition that means:

It only works when I try to show you how it does not work.
What you are probably looking for is called the Vorführeffekt.

It's used like

Die öffentliche Präsentation der Anwendung scheiterte leider am Vorführeffekt.1
It basically means that you try to give some evidence in public while showing how something works (or doesn't work), but you fail because it just gives evidence to present the opposite.

Am just going to go back and tweak it as I did have outgoing calls blocked for these two extensions and removed it to see if that was the problem, wish me luck, I am going to turn it back on.

Fingers crossed seems to have worked, still do not know what broke it or what fixed it but Vorführeffekt works for me.;):)
