See: http://www.3cx.com/forums/smtp-issues-15805.html

Discovered by packetwire_59 - confirmed it is an issue with mine as well.

When one specifies an smtp server in Settings->General->Mail server as host.domain.tld:port or ip.addr.of.mx:port and then does something to generate an email (like, for example, send a welcome email) one gets the following error:

An exception occred Error: Failure Sending Mail
The remote name could not be resolved: host.domain.tld:port

Nothing shows in the server logs.

I am running 9 beta 2. packetwire_59 did not specify which beta he is running - just that he is running a version 9 beta.

Enjoy!

Thanks for reporting this Salter. I am running version 9 build 13011.

This is still an issue in V9 RC1

confirmed bug
thanks for reporting

I am having the same problem in V2 has anyone found a fix yet?

This issue is fixed in 3cxphone system v9 with sp2

Check the voicemail logs and see what they say - you can paste them here. Maybe mail server is not being authenticated or not reachable

Well i encountered this in trying to receive a fax and sending the fax to an email address. I first noticed that the fax was received but the email was not being forwarded. So i then went into the console and tried to send a welcome letter and i kept getting this error

Unable to read data from the transport connection: net_io_connectionclosed

I dont think the vm logs will help me here, what other logs do you think i may check?

You do not have a healthy connection to your mail server. Or vice versa.
Unable to read data from the transport connection: net_io_connectionclosed
Can you telnet ur mail server and port from the pbx machine?

If you want to confirm this forward mail server to google for example and see if the mail is received.

The bug in this case was only when the smtp server was listening on a non default port - ie something other than 25. This is a different problem. Try and run telnet IPSMTPSERVER PORT and see what you get.
