Looking for it, cant find it in latest V15. Found below in old post, but I don't even see a preferences under the provisioning Tab.

In order for the softphone to start in CTI mode, you will need to change the Call Control Preference in the Extension Settings. Go to Extension Settings >> Provisioning Tab and under Preferences >> Call Control change the option to "IP Phone" and re-provision. This will force the client to start in CTI mode.
As for the client, during the installation of 3CXPhone a shortcut is placed in C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\StartUp\ so it will automatically start when user logs in. If this is not happening, check in the above folder and make sure that there is a 3cx client shortcut in there.

After clicking the phone provisioning tab, hit the "Your phones" drop down and select "3CX Client". Then you should see the option about half way down.

Also what all does this do? is there any negatives to it?

I guess that depends on what you're trying to accomplish. CTI mode lets you control your physical IP phone vs using a soft phone. Below is a section from the admin manual.

Following the configuration completion, your client will start in either Softphone mode or CTI mode:
  • Softphone Mode (no IP Phone required): Make and receive calls on your computer without the use of a designated IP Phone.
  • CTI Mode (an IP Phone is required): Deskphone calls can be managed directly from your desktop using the Client. You can make and receive calls on your deskphone as well as remotely initiate, transfer and create conference calls.

If you have an IP Phone, then you will be able to toggle between the two modes. To change between the two modes click the icons highlighted in the images above and choose the desired mode.

thanks all good now..
