Can 3CX pass Vertical Service Codes to Analog lines?

Hello,

We have a possible deployment with a client that has a fairly unique requirement. They need to be able to use the *57 call trace code with analog phone lines in their deployment (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vertical_service_code). We are looking to deploy 3CX with either a Grandstream or Patton FXO gateway with analog lines that support call trace. With the setup, I need to have 3CX send an outbound call to a particular analog line, along with the *57 to activate the call trace. I believe if I configure each analog line as a separate trunk, users can dial a prefix to have the call go out on the desired analog line. Unfortunately I do not have the equipment nor analog lines to test this out right now.

Can anyone confirm if this can be accomplished?

Hi @sygnet1,

3CX does not support PSTN line selection for the FXO using a prefix. This is something that would need to be configured on the FXO directly and may need some experimentation.

Years ago, I came across an issue with passing both * and #, from 3CX, to an analog gateway using the outbound rules. Things may have changed, depending on the gateway model.

Once someone has seized a trunk (PSTN line) and DTMF is sent from the set, *57 should, in theory , should work.

Getting 3CX to send it, using outbound rules, and the gateway accepting it, may be another matter, and would have to be tested.

The gateway would also have to be provisioned with each PSTN line as an individual trunk in 3CX. In that case, each trunk could be accessed, if idle, using a prefix digit. This configuration may have to be done manually, and therefore, not officially supported..

I know that theory and reality may never meet in the real world so that's why I was asking around. James, I don't think I understand what you are getting at. Can you flesh that out a bit more?

One of the problems, i, that, for the most part, vertical service codes are primarily used with residential services, or small businesses, using a key system, and the like. For the most part, PBXs are not designed to enable users to make use of them, as most do not connect the users directly with PSTN dialtone. As we move away from using PSTN gateways, and more towards all SIP service trunking, this will be even more true.
