I have version 16.0.6.655 that wont upgrade due to unmet dependencies, hosted on lightsail. I would like to restore onto version 16.0.7.1078 running on the 3cx hosting platform. Will this restore work or can I only restore onto the same version that the backup was created on?

Haven't tried it, and there may not be a lot that actually have, but I'd be surprised if there was an issue. Using backups to upgrade to a newer version usually limits that you cant go directly from a very old version to the latest, like version 12 to 15, you must install and upgrade in a certain order. But, preventing the use of a backup from one version 16 to another 16 would seem to be counter productive. Of course before attempting anything, be sure you have on hand, a few recent backups. (...or even better a clone/image of the harddrive)

Someone else may have done the same thing....

I don't know if I've done that specific jump from U6 to U7 but I've been migrating several customers to 3CX hosted from various v16 version to whatever the current one was at the time and it was not a problem. I would not expect a problem here. But it's on LightSail so take a backup, shutdown the instance (don't delete) restore to 3CX hosted and if all is well, you can delete the LightSail instance. If not, you just start the LightSail instance back up.

It will be fine, as you are upgrading to a newer version.

When upgrading from a major version on windows platform, you have to uninstall the current version and restore using the previous version backup

As above , just make sure the lightsail version is switched off

I need to find the pbxexpress to do my restore, can any one point me to where I can find it? I used to be able to google it.

To move to 3cx hosting platform , you do this via the partner / customer portal

https://www.3cx.com/blog/releases/pbx-hosting/

Unfortunately I have a ip based sip trunk authentication, so I have to use light sail. I found how to launch the pbxepress:

You go into your customer portal, then keys, then click on more next to your key.

You can choose to self host and this will start the wizard.
