Good day. We're managing Snom phones(majority 700 series) using Snom Active and these phones are currently connected to FreePBX. We want to migrate our Snom Phones to 3CX in a fast and convenient way. We're thinking of using configurations in Snom Active:

Registrar - 3CX FQDN
Outbound Proxy - 3CX FQDN
Authentication Username - I don't what to put here as it is a unique value on each Extension
Password - same goes with the Authentication Username.

Question 1: If I deploy the phones without the Authentication Username and Password, will they be added on 3CX phone list on Web UI's Phone tab?
Question 2: If I edit all the Extension's unique ID and password to make it all same and proceed to apply the configuration on Snom Active, where would those phones be assigned?

Thank you in advance, your help is will be greatly appreciated.

You have to use the 3CX system to deploy and manage the phones

Hi Nick,

Thank you for taking the time to respond. Does this mean we can't deploy these phones using Snom Active going to 3CX?

Hi @Gilroy

The phones must start from a factory reset state, it is not enough to just change registrar and authentication. If you do it like you said above, you'll find that the phones will misbehave and you will have to reset them and provision them via 3CX anyway.

So if you want a fast and convenient way from the get go, then you need to simply reset the phone and assign it from your management console as soon as it appears in the Phones section.

Our guides should help you out, just pick the one for your models:
  1. https://www.3cx.com/sip-phones/snom-d1-series/
  2. https://www.3cx.com/sip-phones/snom-300-320-360-370/
  3. https://www.3cx.com/sip-phones/snom-710-720-760/

...adding to what JohnS said, what you could do in preparation of the migration is, in 3CX add all the MAC addresses of the devices in the extensions you want them to be, then setup Option 66 on your DHCP server with the provisioning link as it is found in the 3CX Management Console under each extension.

Once you have this setup, when you Factory Reset each phone, it will get the provisioning link from Option 66 and then immediately pickup the settings from the 3CX Server.

Sorry for the delay, and thank you for all the responses. We'll probably be doing a manual deployment of the phones since we can't physically configure them.
