Hi 3cx knowledgeable ones - really hope you can help a non VOIP newbie struggling to get his head around something that clearly should be simple:

I have a single SIP trunk (voip provider A&A) which i want to use as a base group for a load of internal extensions and then allow them to be contacted on that extension as a DID (to clarify we want extension 235 to be able to be dialed as its external number which would be +44xxxx xxx235)

we haven't been able to achieve this inside 3cx yet. I imagine this can be done quite simply. How do we setup individual extensions to be able to use a DID other than the main trunk number inside the 3cx software

I know this is very simple and apologies for asking, but its doing my head in.
if there is an easy to follow guide that explains, please could someone provide the link?

otherwise we face creating 50 trunks in A&A which will require 50 trunks in 3cx which seems like a lot of work.

(FYI, if any of you do have time to reply, I will pick the replies on Monday as i am away for the weekend)
Thanks in advance - sorry if it sounds vague but we do have any experience of this type of setup
Andy

Hi
do you have already DDI? if so how many do you have to set on 3CX?

each DDI need his inbound rule for 3cx to know where to forward the calls

Hi Saqqara & AWS2p - sorry for my late reply but wanted to thank you both for your replies which were useful to me.

So, if I give you my current testing environment, perhaps you can suggest what is not setup correctly:

I have a SIP trunk provided by A&A - this is registered in the SIP trunk section on 3cx (green light :-))
Under the DID's tab on this trunk I have added 01483 447235 as an option
In my extensions setup for 235 I have selected this DID option

when i call that DID from my mobile, I get 'you dialled an incorrect number blah blah'

If i look in the activity log I see this:
[CM503003]: Call(C:2): Call to <sip:235@<server ip address>:5060> has failed; Cause: 487 Request Terminated/INVITE from <provisioned phone ip address>:52282

The setup seems to me to make sense - I am calling the DID as an option underneath the main SIP trunk number held by A&A and my 447235 number is linked to the main A&A as a base group number. The extension shows as green also so think that is

Can anyone see the obvious issue? My softphone is not set to reject any calls and it doesn't suggest any activity when i try to call it.

try adding inbound rule for your did and test if it solve, set ext 235 as in office routing and also out of office if you want this to be all the time

As above, you need to setup inbound DDI's https://www.3cx.com/docs/manual/inbound-did-call-routing/ , this is the final part of the jigsaw. You have paired the DDI number with the main number but you have not specified where the call need to be routed. Saying that the DDI number should have been routed as the same as the main number

Look at the activity log, and see what number is being passed to 3CX, you may have to enter DDI differently.

I would also check with your SIP provider , as when you called the, I got 'you dialled an incorrect number blah blah' is not a 3CX message, It would point to setup issue somewhere probably with sip provider.

Thanks both

The inbound rule was automatically added when i edited the extension to use the DDI on offer from the main sip trunk. I just had to name it so it was relevant.

11181

so I think i have the inbound rule in place but its not coming through the base group number at the provider end. Perhaps I need to speak to them once again and discuss why this is not allowing it through. I'll have a word with them and see if they can shed any light on it

Hello again
I have emailed my voip provider who have looked in their logs and seem to suggest that their side is doing what is should - here is the log:

Code:
SIP/2.0 407 Proxy Authentication Required

CSeq: 1 INVITE

This doesn't mean anything to me but hopefully it does to someone. Does the above simply suggest the problem lies within my 3cx setup?

Hello @Serco

The above might suggest that you have a source identification issue as the format of the number the provider is using does not match the number you added as a DID.
Go to your trunk settings and edit your DID so it looks like this: 441483447235
Save your changes and make sure that the Inbound rules is also changed. Then try calling the number again.
