Cannot Access Phone Settings

I recently setup a Fanvil X5U-v2. I set a custom admin PIN code to access the advanced settings on the phone, configured the static IP. Then did the auto configure to connect to our 3CX system. We are unable to access the phones web interface because I misentered the subnet mask in network settings. This SHOULD be a simple fix to go into advanced settings on the phone but the auto provisioning overwrote our admin PIN (*NOT COOL*) - what's more while the 3CX dashboard will show the admin password for the web interface but nowhere does it seem to show what it changed this PIN code to for us to fix the network settings. Unless I'm missing something and there's somewhere to get the new PIN code.

So I was trying to factory reset the phone, but rebooting it while holding down # (like the internet says to do) does not enter POST mode where I can factory reset it. But it puts it in recovery mode where I can upload new firmware which is NOT helpful. So I am at a loss of what to do to fix my phone now. All because you felt the need to change my admin PIN and lock me out of my phones settings.

If anyone else runs into this problem with ChatGPTs help I found out how to manually download 3cx's provisioning file to find the code and discovered, at least for the X5U-v2, that it is the exact same as the web UI password and you can type in letters using the soft keys to switch between letters and numbers using T9 dialing.

Also apparently I got wrong info online, its Ok not # to factory reset this model, but I did not need that.

I still VERY MUCH wish 3CX would have just left my admin password/code alone, I would manually provision it to avoid this in the future if it weren't for the fact that you can not manually configure a router phone apparently.

This was always the way.. You will find the password for the phone in the management console.

It only shows the web UI password, no indication at all about the code to access it on the phone itself. Very unclear, and frankly unnecessary for it to overwrite what I already set. But as I said I was able to get in and fix the network settings and while I was there I turned off the auto syncing of its settings so I can overwrite it back to what I want.

Hi @Ryan123 ,

Should point out that this overwriting is done in order to enhance device security (and operational reliability), by making sure none are left with any factory default access credentials etc or simple PINs where a user could mess with the phones settings and stop it from working as it should.

That's just an excuse and a poor one at that. Your customers aren't children who need to be protected from themselves. I am quite capable of choose my own password. Stop refusing to respect users choices!

You can do it by your own, but this isnt the intended way to use the phones with 3cx. We have more than 70 customers with phones and we never need the pin. Webinterface was always enough.

I prefer the web interface too, but as I mentioned in this specific case I put the wrong subnet mask when configuring the phone's static IP, so after it auto provisions I could not connect to the web internet because of the wrong subnet so I had to be able to fix that from the phone itself. Once I figured it out and got that fixed I made all my other changed via the web interface.

This is the problem with assuming users won't need to change things directly on the phone is there will be a situation like this where it was the only option besides a factory reset and starting over from scratch.

Just reset your phone, after reboot it will get the correct ip and provision again automatically.
