I have tried a few times to update my Azure hosted service to 16.0.4.493 the errors are below, what is wrong with it and is there a way to install without using the auto function?

Err:11 http://debian-archive.trafficmanager.net/debian stretch/main Translation-en

can you switch into root by using "sudo -su" command

Hi,

What method did you use to upgrade?

Hi,

What method did you use to upgrade?

i used the "updates" section in the web console, clicked "download" it logged me out then emailed to say failed again.

I tend to use just the web console and all commands in there as I have zero linux knowledge

Ok and the error you saw, was that in the email after the upgrade failed?

yes, i have tried a few different times, a couple of reboots etc still the same

Without being completely certain, it looks like parts of the OS are failing to update for some reasons.

If you are not familiar with Linux, the easy solution would be to take a full backup off the machine, and then redeploy.

The not so easy solution, would be to troubleshoot via a forum that can help with Debian Linux. This means you will have to analyze the OS logs and do manual work remove whatever reason is stopping aptitude from upgrading.

Whichever way you choose, make 100% sure that you take a backup off the machine first - in case something goes wrong - so you can restore your PBX no matter what happens.

are there no other ways to solve this than deleting and starting again? it looks like the updates are missing from the repository and it seems to be an old one, is there a way to skip to the current one?
It is hosted on Azure could there be an issue there? nothing has changed so not sure what has happened

where do the automatic updates come from, how do they get to the system? Is there a way to download manually?

Hi,

Updates (whether Debian or 3CX or any other package) will come from the repositories.
If they are not accessible, it is not possible to upgrade manually or automatically.
The harder solution is to troubleshoot the repos and this will require some Linux knowledge.

Whatever was the cause, I think it may be easier to redeploy you machine using a latest backup.
You can use out PBX Express installer which takes care of everything for you, or you can do a manual install.

https://www.3cx.com/docs/pbx-azure-marketplace/ to install it manually

https://pbxexpress.3cx.com/ chose restore in the cloud and use your backup

I will do that, is there a chance a later update will appear in the console that would then negate this faulty one or will they always be inturn?

How you would you get the newer update without working repositories?

They must be installed to my instance via your servers to get the New 16.0 Update 4 Release? otherwise how are they getting there? they are not azure, linux updates just phone software made by your development team

this seems a long winded job to fully install the system again because the latest update will not install, people complain about windows but its not this bad

Does this make a new virtual machine or find my current one and replace it?

The updates are in the server, but the repository list on you machine tells Linux where to go and download them (so it can update itself).

If the machine has an error on the repository config files on your hard disk, then it will not know how to download the updates (simply speaking). This means it cannot download the existing updates, or the newer updates that will come later.

Technically you can log into the machine via command line and check them one by one to find what went wrong, and fix them. This might take more time and requires some Linux knowledge to ensure that you know what the modifications may cause.

If you download a backup off of the machine, and delete the machine, you can the deploy a fresh new virtual machine using our PBX Express (that has automated scripts which take care of the whole installation process for you quick and easily).

Can you please describe all the steps so we can better understand?

it suddenly started to allow me in, now just looking at the firewall log is there a setup for Azure to solve these?
