Choppy audio with v14 client on Android

What other 3 devices did you try it on?

More data points for you guys, upgraded my 1st Gen Moto G to Android 5.1 and the 3CX app still works correctly with high quality audio and no clipping, so it's not an issue with Lollipop. If you have anything you'd like to test, I'd be a willing beta tester.

Hi, I'm getting the same issue with Sony Z3 Compact and HTC M8, the choppiness improved by turning off 'improvements' and changing back to 'Basic' microphone but overall quality suffered. Running v14 with SP1 and just updated app. Works really well on iPhones, Windows app etc, slight shame as most members of staff have Android. Hopefully this can be resolved with a future update to the app.

I'm using an LG Nexus 5, Android 6.0. Ever since upgrading to V14, I've been unable to use my mobile phone for 3CX calls. The audio is so choppy that it's unusable. It worked okay on V12.

I've read through this forum thread and tried changing the settings mentioned, as well as testing on WIFI, but I haven't noticed any difference. And after 2 months of not being able to use 3CX, too many people have my mobile phone number...

I would like to know if 3CX is working on this problem. I'm more than happy to accept a call on my mobile so they can witness the problem first hand.

Thank you for proving that I'm not alone facing these issues!!!
Now the only thing left is for 3CX to acknowledge there is in fact a problem, and try to solve it...

FWIW - I have Samsung Galaxy S5 and using 3CX v14 sp 1. My android phone works well on 3g/4g and wifi.

I would also like to add my voice to this. I have always suspected a difference between android and other 3cx softphones, The others seem to work fine, but android not so. I just did an interesting test. TRy this.
Do echo test *777 from 3cx, android V14 and compare the delay time with zoiper connecting as sip client to the same system. The difference in lag is noticeably worse on 3cx android client in my opinion, I think half a second extra lag.
Makes no difference if this is on good wifi 3G or 4G connection.

Here is a little more “food for thoughts”;
Although some android device users are reporting that everything is fine on their side, it is a fact that the AUDIO quality via the 3CX app on some android devices is at best “Crappy”.
But this time instead of just saying there is an issue with the Audio, I decide to make a test and compare to another SIP app; Zoiper, that has just been discussed before by “bull_tpk” in this thread on nov 18. All in the intent of helping out 3CX fine tune their app.
Device:
NEXUS 5 (Rooted)
ANDROID 6.0
BUILD #: MRA58N

3CX Phone 14.0.47
Test Call RESULT: Choppy audio, almost like static buildup crackling and losing audio.
No matter the settings I change in the app “Audio Options” the results remain the same.
Testing it on Wi-Fi (LAN) or on the cellular network (3G) does not affect the test results either.

Zopier 1.28 for Android
Test Call RESULT: Excellent audio quality, no lag, no nothing; PERFECT
Testing it on Wi-Fi (LAN) or on the cellular network (3G) bears the same excellent results.

Same device, same network, same phone system; different apps, different results…
Now you tell me that the “Audio issues” I’m getting on my Android device is not related to the 3CX app…

I rest my case, your Honor…

Its difficult and very frustrating when they wont even acknowledge the problem exists. I think the lag has always been there, even in V12, on android which is why I have never bothered to use the 3cx android. Other platforms work perfectly

Hi guys

because we have same issues on some Android's phone (mainly Samsung) we would try on a different SIP client like Zoiper, to find out if it is really related to 3CX client.

Tried to set up the Zoiper softphone but we are not able to register it to the 3CX Pbx (v14).

Could you suggest the configuration for that, please? We run tunnel on 3CX.

Many thanks,
Vanni

You can also use built in internet call within android. Pretty sure most flavours of android have this, open up phone app and go to settings, you can configure the built in internet call settings to 3cx, via normal sip. You wont be able to use tunnel on anything else except 3cx app, or if all the cleints are behind a corporate firewall over wifi you can use 3cx session border controller to connect via tunnel, thru a windows machine or raspberry pi. Over public internet you will need to use normal sip conenction via 5060, and dont forget to allow use outside the lan in 3cx if you are going over public connection

I tried the built in internet call fucntion on htc one m8 and it works perfectly too

@ VanniG; I don’t think you can use the “3CX Tunnel” with another app than 3CX’s…
The settings are pretty simple and straight forward… (Already have an account? “YES”, Manual Config, SIP, Acc Name, Host; server FQDN (or static external IP), user name, password, Auth user (same as user name). That’s it!

@ bull_tpk; this is a great idea. I had forgot about the Android inbuilt sip phone. I remember using it with ver. 5 ish, of 3CX, before they had their own app.
The call audio quality is also “PERFECT” using the Android inbuilt sip phone on my NEXUS 5!!!
C‘mon 3CX, you can do better with your Android app…

@ MichaelB; I’m really curious as to why you, (3CX), do not acknowledge the fact that your app has audio issues on Android and try to fix it instead of denying it??? This seems really obvious, and probably also simple to fix as every other app has done it right…
I (and most probably everybody else concerned) would really like to get an answer from you (3CX) on this.
Thank you!

Just as an update, I have retested with the latest update V14 SP2, and Android app V14.0.50, and the Audio is still BAD! Bad enough not to use the app!
This is kind of unbelievable coming from a corporation like 3CX that boast itself as being “Mobile” oriented…

For me it is time to give up. My test:
3CX V14
Sony Xperia Z3 /5.1.1
Samsung Galaxy S4 /5.01
Wiko Lenny 2 /5.1
Allview Viper S /4.3

All phones microphone set to basic and echo cancellation off

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

CSipSimple
Sony Xperia z2 Tablet /5.1.1

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Zoiper 1.25 for Android Gold
Samsung Galaxy S6 (rooted) /5.01

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

3CX for Windows Mobile
Nokia Lumia 925 WinMob 10

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

3CX Server:
Hyper-V with virtual machine Windows Server 2012 R2 (2008 already tested, the same problem like 2012R2)
Totally new installed from zero, 3CX new installation without old config files, inserted new.
Fortinet 60C, HP1910 Switches, Ubiqiti AC APs

Time to give back 3CX and get the money back

Android Phones unusable with audio. Push working really good.
Windows Phones really nice Audio quality, but no push.

With V12.5 the audio quality was really good, there was just the push theme preventing me to switch to 3CX system completely.

My request has been a Phone system using only Android Smartphones. The result: Seems that 3CX does not care so much about their customers.

3CX support in Germany (guys, you are less than 40km away from my company) promising to call back three times, nothing. Instead they have been calling their external partner if they are not working.
My external IT partner, a 3CX partner, also got no ideas anymore.

Hey there, are you aware that you are promising something you cannot keep?

Kind regards,
1Efrak

We are checking this issue and we will update post once we have news in regarding this issue.
Thanks

Same problem here. With Android the audio is too choppy, very unusable.
Tested with Sony, Komu, Samsung and Huawey.
Already tried to change every option in Audio Settings, Advanced Settings and Codec Settings.

Hi,

just to add to the list i am having exactly the same problem. perfect quality on the laptop over wireless with the windows softphone. on (oneplus) android standard (cms12.1) and same wireless = very poor and choppy.

it would be good to have this fixed or workaround!

Same problems on LG G PRO 2 Android 5.0.1

Try to turn off GSM codec.

@ MichaelB, or any other 3CX tech,
Could you please update all of us poor little Android users as to when 3CX is planning on getting this issue fixed?
I mean there has to be quite a few users affected by this issue as there is over 4k views on this thread...
Maybe if you talk to the 3CX Santa Claus or his Elves we could expect a Christams miracle ;)
Thank you
